Hysterectomy April 27, 2004

Hello Ladies

I am a new member to the hystersister family and trying really hard to find some ideas on how to get ready for my operation.

I have truyly enjoyed reading the messages regarding pos op and just wanted to say thank you to each and everyone of you for your words of encouragement.

Right now my biggest fear is that my stomach will look like a deflated beach ball. I plan to get some vitamen E to help with the scaring, but are there any other ideas??

What type of hysterectomy are you having? If its the one where they only make a few small inscisions, there is minimal scarring. I can barely see the scars from my last surgery.

If it is the abdnominal hysterectomy, there will be more scarring. Pretty much like that of a C-Section. You can try vanishing creams, and there are some over the counter products that are suppose to reduce scarring. But I am not too sure if any of those will help. I have tried different things for my stretch marks, and nothing has worked. They have faded some, but are still there.

Tanning helps hide them. At least thats what I think, when I tan, my scars and stretch marks are less noticeable.

I agree with Kedi
Tanning works wonders on hiding scars and stretch marks. Since I hate actually laying out in the sun, I use the fake tan stuff that comes in a bottle. It's my constant companion from May to October.

Also, I just had a remedial massage yesterday, and the massage therapist told me that once I've healed from my surgery to come on in, and she will help me with the scar tissue. It's really important to ensure that the scar heals flat, and is not stuck down to the underlying muscle.

Hope that helps
