Pain Killers

Have anybody had a drug called TORADOL for pain they say is not a good thing, it has many side effects I'm just wondering if anybody took it and how did it go.

Also I need to know about Morfine and if this helps.

Thank you for your info.

I took torodol in Sept. before I had my lapro for possible adhesions. It really didn't help me at all.
After my hyst I took 2 percocets every 4 hours and 800mg ibuprofen every 6 hours. This seemed to help alot.
Maybe you can do a search on torodol. That may give you some useful info.

Pain Killers

I had the morphine pump after my hyst. It killed the pain, but had my bouncing off of the walls. I am opting for Demerol pump after my surgery tomorrow.
I did have morphine injected into my IV after my GB surgery in Sept. It didn't bother me as bad as after the hyst. It did kill most pain, but not my headache.

We all react different to medication. I hope you find one that works for you.

GOOD LUCK
Peggy

Pain Killers

I had my surgery in Dec and I LOVED Toradol. I can't take morophine, demerol and sensitive to codeine and that is the ONLY drug my body could tolerate WITHOUT being nauseated all day long. When I came home from the hospital they gave me Vicodin bleeech I took 2 pills and threw up for 8 hrs. It took that long for the crap to get out of my system. I also flushed my down the toilet. I guess everyone thresh hold for pain medication varies. But I LOVED my Toridaol I wish they had it in pill form

I also had a great reaction to torodol. It's a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, like ibuprofen.

Day 1 I had the morphine pump. I was totally ready to stop that because of the spaciness & it didn't stop the pain as much as I'd have thought it would.

Day 2 they switched to IV torodol and I found it controlled the pain as good if not better than the morphine. No negative side effects.

When I was sent home I was given a script for Ibuprrofen (800 mg three times a day) with Ultram to use as needed (I only used it at night, and probably wouldn't have even needed it but since I had it, I took it).

Some people have more difficulty with pain than others thought and the NSAIs might not be enough!

They do have Toradol in pill form, the downside is you can't take it for longer than 5 days.
It is a strong anti-inflammatory and can work good on some pain. I took a shot of it at the docs when I hurt my back so I could get home.
I had morphine pump after all my surgeries and dont' know what I would have done without it. If narcotics make you throw up or nauseated, let your doc know and they can give you medication for it. That shouldn't keep you from getting adequate pain relief.
I have to use something daily because of the narcotics I take.
Are you asking about this for immediate post op or what?

Pain Killers

As a nurse working in GYN area, I will give you my take on Toradol. In my opinion, both from personal experience and professional observations, TORADOL does help!!! But...it needs to be given on a ROUTINE basis, not PRN like Demerol or Morphine would be given. Given routinely, it is an every 6 hour dose, usually for the first 24-48 hours post-op. It can really be of help when other meds aren't enough. I have seen it really help pts. to stay on top of their pain and be able to progress more easily. Not all doctors give it, but it is worth asking about! I was given Toradol after a surgery due to the fact I can't tolerate Demerol or Morphine and found it to work better than the others! Even when moved from the PCA pump of Demerol/Morphine or Dilaudid to the pills (Lortab,Vicodin, Darvocet...) continueing the Toradol for the first few days helps!!!

The thing to remember is that not everyone responds to any given med the same way, just as our recoveries are all different, so are our responses to treatments!!

Best of luck and many 's,
Ronda

Pain Killers

I, too did very well on Toradol (injected into IV at hospital, pills when I got home), and I do think it helped me stay "ahead" of the pain, if you know what I mean. Demerol did nothing for me but make me feel stoned, and NOT in a good way!

No side effects from the Toradol at all in my case. I hadn't heard about the 5-day limit...I've got a second bottle here, but don't use it every day. I just wanted it at home for when I start back to work full-time...I know that's going to create some new aches and pains. My Dr. didn't bat an eye when I asked him for one refill for this purpose. Anyone else experience this?

Hope this helps you!

Pain Killers

I had Toradol after surgery until my IV was removed the next morning and I was released from the hospital that day with Darvocet and Ibuprofin.

I thought Toradol was such a blessing. I was using a Morphine drip for the first 20 hours and it helped me a lot, but does make you spacey. But I was glad every time the nurse came in with that Toradol.

My doc only prescribed 25 Darvocet with no refill, so I have been using Motrin beginning with 800 mg and now 400-600 mg depending on the level of pain which changes from day to day.

I have not researched Toradol, but now you have me curious.

Pain Killers

I had morphine post op. The nurses would come in and ask about my pain level on a scale of 1-10 and accordingly, they would inject me in my hand iv thing. I loved it and my DH and the nurses said that it really made me talk!! I slept on it mostly and dreamt some weird dreams. I was glad to withdraw because I liked it a lot. Don't know about the other drug you asked about. I came home with Lortab and used it first five days withdrawing slowly because I didn't like the side effects of blurred vision and constipation. Took ibuprophen a couple of times after that.

Everyone is different and this is a subject that I would talk to your doc about real openly and honestly. They've heard it all so don't hold back.
