Is this the "Date Rape" drug?

I'm having a local rather than general anesthesia and the nurse told me that they'll also give me an amnesia drug in my IV so I won't remember anything about the surgery. I'm just curious... I didn't ask her at the time... I wonder if this is something similar to that date rape drug I hear about on the news? Anybody know?

I am having my surgery on July 13 and I have a pre-admission appt. on the 6th. Anesthesia makes me sick plus it just takes so long to get out of your system. I think it is almost as bad as the surgery. I want to look at other options instead of anesthesia. Is the local an epidural or what is it exactly? I want to discuss this option at my pre-admission with the anesthesiologist. Thanks for any info you can give me.

I do not know for sure, but I would guess that they could do it with either an epidural or a spinal. I had 2 c-sections, one with each type of anesthesia. If they can do c-sections this way, I would think that they could do hysters too.

The drug given IV that has amnesic effects is often Versed. I had it for my two prior surgeries, and will say it works! Once you get it, you don't remember a anything. And really, thats a good thing!

The date-rape drug that we hear of on the media is different, Rohypnyl (probaby spelled wrong).

I think I'm getting an epidural. I'm really glad because I know I'll wake up quicker and I won't have the sore throat from the tube. When I read the castle stories, I noticed that some of the princesses don't even remember the recovery room. I wonder if I'll be one of them?
