Will I ever learn????

So I am 6 days post op. Came home on Friday morning and haven't been out since. Well this evening I thought I'd go with my BF while he plowed a driveway. We have about 18' +/- of snow. We were gone about an hour (all I did was sit in the truck) and I started feeling tired. Then when we got home--- I slipped off the step, now thank goodness we had alot of snow beside the step but still it scared us both. i don't think I pulled anything but......

Anyone ever fall after the surgery????

Re: Will I ever learn????

As long as you are feeling ok you are probably fine. I did trip but managed to catch myself after taking pain meds. I ended up pulling my hamstring muscle and needed muscle relaxants but I knew immediately that I had done something. I think your body would tell you. It sounds weird but I think the snow helped you as it cushioned the fall. Never thought I'd say thank goodness for snow but am doing so. Sending lots of hugs for you to be fine. You may be a little stiff after sleeping on it if any muscles were slightly pulled. Take it easy and relax. Sending lots of good thoughts for you.

PLEASE be careful! I live in the great snowbelt of Pennsy, so I know what you're dealing with. I am so glad you didn't get hurt! Take care!

Re: Will I ever learn????

Thanks for responding ladies. I am fine after last nights fall. I was afraid of seeing blood each time I went to the bathroom- but thankfully haven't seen any. I didn't think I pulled anything when I fell, but it did scare me. I go to the doctor tomorrow for my 1 week check up, so i will tell him but I think I'm fine. Yeah!!!

Re: Will I ever learn????

You had me nervous for a minute - thought you were going to say you helped shovel! yikes! Glad you're feeling ok, and that the snow was there to "catch" you. Make sure to mention it to your doc. Landing is only one part of falling. On your way down, I'm sure all your muscles tightened up to brace yourself for the fall, so need to make sure that didn't affect anything either. *Hugs*

Re: Will I ever learn????

Went to the dr yesterday for my 1 week check up. He said all looks good. I go back in 5 weeks. I drove myself (yes he said I could)- I took a pillow for my seat but it's a 40 minute drive 1 way. I stopped by my moms on the way. was only gone about 4 hours- but last night I was tired. this morning I am so sore. I told the doctor about the fall and he said that was fine nothing happened. But boy that drive sure got me.

So ladies- continue to rest as much as possible! even though you don't feel sore and want to do stuff---- DON'T, you will pay for it!!! lol

Take care everyone,
Aseretyar

Re: Will I ever learn????

I'm glad your fall didn't hurt you, Aseretyar.

We got a ton of snow here shortly after I got home from the hospital. Fear of falling on a slippery surface has kept me form getting out and walking a bit. (That and the cold - I hate cold!) It's sunny today, though, and the sidewalk, driveway, and road are clear. I think I might take a short walk this afternoon.

I totally agree with you about resting. I've been doing light household chores, but I'm always careful not to do too much at a time and then to take a rest even though I don't feel like I need it. So far, so good.

Re: Will I ever learn????

Glad to hear that everything is fine after the fall. Living where it snows can make simple things so difficult. Our parking lot at work is a real hazard. Very slippery.
I think that we all learn sooner or later to listen to our bodies and rest when it says you need to. I am so tired today that I plan on going to bed by about 8 or so and sleeping for a long time.
I think it is so easy to overdo it and then you pay for it. I would be bored and do more than I should and then my body would just be cramping and feeling lousy for the rest of the day. Rest is so important.
