Pelvic floor exercises yet? Prolapse prevention?
Hi!
Two weeks postop from my LAVH and perineal repair. I have pelvic organ prolapse (anterior and posterior), grade 2, which I did not have repaired at this time.
When can I start kegels and pelvic floor exercises up again? My doctor seems clueless about prolapse and some other postop ladies I talked to said 12 weeks?? That seems like a long time to me, but they may have had prolapse repaired, which I did not. Sorry if this is rambling, please let me know what your docs recommended? I don't want organs falling out
But don't want to compromise healing of course. Thanks!

Re: Pelvic floor exercises yet? Prolapse prevention?
I've been wondering the same thing. I don't have prolapse, and I don't know if that makes a difference in the answer, but I've found multiple articles online that say you can start pelvic floor exercises (Kegels) the day after surgery, or as soon as you're comfortable. I've been worried about squeezing too hard and messing up the vaginal cuff, although that might make no sense anatomically! I seriously have no idea what all goes on in there! Haha!

Re: Pelvic floor exercises yet? Prolapse prevention?
I didn't have a prolapse either but have been wondering the same thing.
I didn't get any information about this at the hospital but all of my family were urging me to start pelvic floor exercises so I did. Not loads but now and again when I remembered.
A couple of days ago I started to get some brownish discharge and then a tiny bit of pink discharge so I stopped straight away.
Worried I may have disturbed the healing of my vaginal cuff so think I'll be holding off until I have my post op.
I was asked if I had any questions but these questions only pop into your head afterwards don't they! I think there should be more information regarding recovery etc.

Re: Pelvic floor exercises yet? Prolapse prevention?
I had this same question earlier this week. I called my surgeon's nurse with a few questions (like this one). She said I can start Kegel's now, but I'm 5 weeks out and had DvH, no history of prolapse (and she was looking at my chart and this was after we'd discussed several other things. For example, she'd been a bit happily surprised that I was walking 1/2 hour daily, and that influenced her suggestion on when/how to start my other exercises at the gym). So my suggestion would be to ask your surgeon's nurse, just to be safe.
