Is it just me?
hi all
I'm really getting nervous and the people around me sound so insensitive.. i know i am only having a vaginal hysterectomy but hey its still a major thing! I have made plans to go ahead this weekend and get my daughters birthday cake prepared and a few women in the office decide to tell me i might be overreacting a small bit .. that it is 10 days after surgery and i will be ok to do the cake and decorate it then... i think not but who knows .. i want to be prepared! and who knows i may feel great but they all seem to think its in my head that it is going to be so horrible and that i can do this and that and come back to work in one week and sit all day and be fine.. who knows but from reading all of this i wonder..maybe im the one that is too sensitive.. and when its all done time will tell .. but i just can't believe that they are acting like this .. one of the girls here has had many surgerys and faced alot ..and she comes back to work right after and works but she is miserable .. they all think i should be like her..each and every person is different i understand that ..why cant they?
thanks for listening to me .. needed to vent before i go nuts!

How insensitive! Don't even listen to them - read the postings on this site and you will feel a ton better! I had a SAH/RSO on 9/17 and I am having a slight complication and not feeling much better than my first week home. This is major surgery, not matter the route taken. You need to ignore them, listen to your body, your physician and the women at this site. Read the posting on what you should and should not do after surgery - it scared the devil out of me! You could do serious harm to yourself internally (same whether vaginally or abdominally) and have lasting detrimental effects, subsequent surgeries and chronic pain if you don't take care of yourself post surgery. I'm so sorry your co-workers are reacting to you like that. Try to think of it this way - they are so scared of being without you that their selfishness is kicking in because they can't do without you! That is a Well guess what - your daughter is much more important and needs you there. You take the time you need and take care of yourself - no one else will do it for you!
I'll for you and send you many
Christine

Is it just me?
It's not just you sweetie! I have had a multitude of people tell me "just suck it up and get over it!" Hmmmm, well gee...come over here and let me remove a few of your organs and then let's see what you say then? *sheesh* I know what you mean about those people who come back to work right waya after surgery....like the world will come to a screeching halt if they aren't there doing their job! Then they are miserable and most likely continue to have problems from there on out because they didn't heal properly! Take my world for it...no job is worth risking your health or a proper recovery. Everyone is different but following the doctor's orders is very important in this particular situation. I am not doing ANYTHING my doc says isn't ok. Sure it is going to be a kick in our income...but I can't buy better health. If it makes you feel better to do your daughter's cake now..then do it! Or better yet order her one and save yourself the worry. We all have to do what we feel we need to do to feel comfortable prior to surgery. Mine is tomorrow and I am going to do a small list of things this afternoon and then crawl into a hot tub and shave my legs and wash my hair and give myself a facial! Then I will organize my little area where I will recover and that will be that!
Huge Hugs!!

The next time they have the stomach flu, tell them to "get over it" and come on in to the office. (Not equating hysterectomy to the stomach flu, but you get the idea.)
I read someone's quote on here a couple of weeks ago that said "It's minor surgery when it's happening to you. It's major surgery when it's happening to me."
People who show no compassion are not people to surround yourself with right now. Find your support elsewhere since obviously they cannot relate.
(If I have to hear one more story about my nurse friend who had LAVH ... like me ... and was frolicking on the beach in Hawaii a week later, I'm going to gag.)
Everyone is different in their recovery times. And don't let anyone tell you how you should recover. Only you know that.
I'm behind you, sister.

Yep, we all know what you mean..... seems this is the only place to go where we all understand and support each other. I'm becoming seriously addicted to this place, some people here are truly becoming sisters to me.....
You are not alone, we are all in this together...... by the way, I'm "only" having a TVH too! My boss (female) says I'll be up and at it within 2 weeks... yep... NOT....

Is it just me?
thanks ladies for the shoulder to lean on ..you all have been a great blessing.. some days i read these posts and am scared to death and others i read and im so gladi have all of this information ...i have 3 girls that will turn 14 this month soooo its so much easier to make the cake.. and with one that big .. you have lots of decorating .. just trying to make life easy on me i guess.. but it really really is terrible tht when women have never faced a major surgery tell you that its all in your head ... my head is about to actually burst.. i just cant imagine them being so insensitive but then again .. oh well ..i really cant afford to be off work for long ..so thats a givin that i have to come back to work but i believe even if off 2 weeks will be ok ..
just hope that one day if these women have to have surgery that umm they will have the same attitude bout themselves
thanks all

It's definitely not just you. I'm at a point where I don't answer the phone and I rarely reply to emails because I don't want to hear the things people have to say. The only people I really talk to us my family, I can't handle talking to the others.
I've been on disability since July, and I have a feeling I wont be going back until the end of the year. I'm not the least bit concerned about my work, being out lets them appreciate me more. LOL So relax and let them appreciate you.
Take care,
Mary Ellen

Is it just me?
just a tvh-JUST A TVH!!! where do these people come from??? I totally understand. If one more person tells me I'll be up and back to "normal" within 2weeks, one more time I'm gonna....well you know what I'm gonna do!I don't care how the organs are leaving your body ,the fact is they are leaving and they are being ripped out through a rather small opening!!!In fact yesterday I had my pre-op(yeah I know kinda early but I guess thats the way he does it.gives him time to fix what may need fixin before the day I suppose) anyway, when I said that I hope it works out so I can have a TVH instead of a TAH cause I'll heal faster he said" woe, wait a minute I don't want you thinking that this is any less of a major surgery or that recovery is any faster. It still just depends on each persons individual ability to heal". So there you have it straight from the horses mouth! I honestly can't believe that women, especially, are so non-chalent about this surgery. though I'd be willing to bet it would be a whole different ball game if it were them!

ONLY a vag hyst! It's not like getting a mole removed for goodness sake! Or since this is "elective" surgery for some, we should just suck it up? Baloney!
Or does their crystal ball tell them that you won't have any complications....that no other family or financial concerns will come up....that they know to a science exactly what is wrong with you? Please!
You must rest and follow your doctor's instructions. You are a very wise and wonderful woman to think this far in advance and take care of your family. Dont' forget to take care of yourself, emotionally, physically, and mentally.
Is all about you baby, as well it should be.
