question about surgery

Hello my name is Dee. I am due to have my surgery on 1/21/05. I am scheduled to have a SCAH, can anyone tell me exactly what i am having removed? Is this a partial or total hysterectomy? The reason for the hysterectomy is fibroid tumors, ovarian cysts and endemitrioses(probably spelled wrong). Thanks for any help to my question!

The only thing I can think the Op you may be having is:-
SAH--Subtotal Abdominal Hysterectomy--removal of uterus through an abd. incision leaving the cervix intact
SAH--Supracervical Abdominal Hysterectomy---same as above

maybe the DR the put it down as a SCAH for a supracervical.

If you are unsure you should ask your Dr what it is they intend to remove or what they will be doing during surgery.

I agree with Tanis sounds like a SupraCervical Abdonimal Hysterectomy, mine was a SubTotal Abdominal Hyst which is why my sig list it as STAH!

Sounds like that to mee too. You need to make sure though before you start signing consent forms, if you have any doubt on what your doc is taking out or leaving in, call the office and ask them what you are scheduled for, I would probably go ahead and do that anyway, just to ease your mind. Let us know what they said

Hi Thanks for the posts! I have a pre-op appointment on january 18th, i will ask my doctor alot of questions then, i was wondering and felt kind of silly calling the doctor and asking him, i had received the surgery papers in the mail and i didn't see any posts with that type of surgery listed. I will be sure and to post on here to let you know what my doc says! Sorry it took so long to reply back i have been enjoying a home visit with my son who is on leave from the service and just came back from 6 months of Operation Iraqi Freedom!
