night sweats

Just two weeks post op and last night was awake and sweating all night long. Is this the loss of Ovaries? Or could it be meds? Someone help, I really can't live like this, ugh.

night sweats

I had terrible night sweats. Actually, I could be sitting in a chair and all of a sudden, sweat was running.

This is the anesthesia leaving your body. At least, that was what I was told. It actually started getting better by the end of week 2 and stopped completely by 3 1/2 weeks.

Hang in there! It will get better!

If they took your ovaries (and sometimes even if they don't), it's from the sudden lack of estrogen in your body (surgical menopause). I have had vicious night sweats every single night since my 3rd day post-op , and I had regional (epi/spinal) anesthesia. My dr said, yes, this is surgical menopause. If you are no longer in posession of your ovaries and are a candidate for Hormone Replacement, ask your doctor about it.
clee2830, was your Dr the one who told you it was the anesthesia? Have you ever had anesthesia for any other surgery? I have, and never had night sweats... Hmmm...

I had an epi/spinal, not sure how that works with night sweats. Call the dr office today, they said it probably is the surgical removal of my ovaries. I did not think it would affect anything since my ovaries stopped working a while back. How long will this go on Anyone know? I am concerned about using the HRT patch as my family has a huge history of breast cancer and also blood clots. I have a thirty year old daughter with a leg full of blood clots they tell us were caused by ESTROGEN therapy. She has a leg dammaged for life, not sure it is worth the risk of it happening to me.

On the 2nd + 3rd nite home from my surgery I had terrible nite sweats as well. If you ask 10 Dr's you will get all different answers as to why they occur. Hang in there.

Talk to your doctor about HRT. I'm 3.2 months post op and still have night sweats although maybe 3 a week. Just changed my HRT haven't had one in about a week. But I still have sleepless nights, I wake every nite at 2:30, takes me about 45 mins. to fall back asleep.

The hormonal jungle out there is scary. Nothing like taking a crash course in hormones!

Good luck!

hormones

Here is a link to the Hormone Jungle, and there are also Hormone articles you can read. In the link, the article showing is one about nutritional supplements that might help some of the menopausal symptoms, or the problems from surgery. On Hystersisters there is also the Desert Oasis that is a great resource for those that cannot or choose not to take HRT.

I believe after reading on here and talking to my friends that are in natural menopause that surgical menopause can be a lot different. Your ovaries continue to produce some hormones even after menopause. It could be the abrupt change or having not even the minimum we need.

HRT and side effects

Be sure when you choose HRT that you are well aware of the side effects. Most of us close our eyes to it, anything for relief of symptoms, but HRT can be leathal. As I mentioned before my 30 year old daughter ended up with a leg permanetly filled with scared in blood clots all because of hormone supplements.
