Post op no hormones per doc
hi all, I had my total abd hysterectomy Monday. They removed everything. It seems I had fibroids but worse than that was the endometriosis. He said that it was EVERYWHERE! He wants me to wait 4 weeks before starting any hormone program. This is good because I have not decided whether to go natural or synthetic. So far I have not had any problems but I know that it is early. Has anyone else had this happen? And any advice on hormone route to take?
Thanks for any input.

I am currently taking Premarin .625mg. My doc started me with .45 about 2 weeks post-op, and the symptoms were as bothersome as when I wasn't on anything. Now I'm feeling fine - a little flush here and there but nothing I can't tolerate. He thinks I might need it for a year or so. He offered me a patch (change 1x week) but warned me about reaction to the adhesive. My skin reacts to everything so I went with the pill. There's a lot of info on this website - you've come to the right place!
Congratulations on your surgery and wishes for a speedy recovery!

Hi,
If you are unsure about which way to go with hormones, then you might want to read and research as much as possible before going back to see your dr.
If you go to Resources
There is a lot of helpful information under the Hormone and No-Hormone sections.
Wishing you a smooth recovery.

Wow! I had the same situation, but my dr said no hormones for at least 3 months. My first month, I was pretty good.
Starting at about 5-6 weeks I got really mean -- my emotions were out of control. I also was having really cold spells.
My dr prescribed Aygestin, which I think is progesterone-based. It's working fine. I don't feel perfect, but my family isn't hiding from my anymore.
