Ok - I know it has only been 10 days since my TAH BSO, but I am feeling aggravated and tired of being in pain! It dosen't seem like the pain pills help much. I am sleeping good though.

I would like to start walking, but when I did the other day, I really paid for it with back and tummy pain.

When do the docs say its ok to exercise? I'm guessing after I see him for my 2 week check up he will ok me then for light exercise. In the mean time, I think I may go crazy!

Anyone walk slowly on their treadmills?

Hi Sheila, You have to take it easy. Walking is good, but no hills. Short walks and no lifting. It takes time to heal and at my 6 weeks, I'm still sore particularly at night. Take good care, Hugs from me to you, Susan

I was scared to pieces to walk on a treadmill - what if I tripped?! I would stumble on a good day while running or walking on the tread.

My doc gave me advice that doesn't fail - "Listen to your body." I was not able to walk until 4 weeks. Even then it was mostly less than an extremely slow 1/4 mile. That was normal for me, even if it was light-years behind everyone else. Please take care of yourself. If your doctor clears you for something, it doesn't mean you have to run right out and do it. AND Bless your heart! You're only 10 days out. Let your body heal and only do activity as tolerated. That's a big surgery your body just went through!
Feel better soon!!!

Hi Sheila!

I had the same type of surgery as you had, and at 4-5 weeks post-op I was just itchin' to get outdoors and take a mile-or-two daily walk in the fresh air and sunshine...so I did! I was disappointed that afterwards, I felt so sore and achey in my "surgical area." All I was really "moving" was my legs! I asked my gyn about this at my 6-week post-op checkup, and he told me that, "Walking involves more muscles than one might think."

I echo the advice of others to listen to your body and don't "push it" too hard at this early stage of your recovery. The old battle cry, "Go for the burn!" is NOT advisable at this stage of the game.

Many s and Best Wishes,
