Feeling pretty good, but...

Hi ladies.

I am now able to sit up here at the PC for however long I want without being in gut-splitting pain! YAY! My only concern as of yet (TAH on Feb 12) is the swelling. My lower abdomen is so swollen. I have been losing quite a bit of weight over the last year, and was looking good (if I do say so myself) I no longer had any overhang, or 'apron' and was so proud of that. Now Post-op, I am still dropping a couple pounds, but my lower abdomen is so swollen I now have an 'apron' again, and I **** near look pregnant. I tried on my jeans last night, and the waist is huge but the mid-section of them was so tight it hurt. They used to be very baggy and frumpy looking pre-op. How long does it take for this abdominal swelling to go away?

Also, when can I start doing some kind of workout again?! I am going NUTS sitting here not being able to do anything. I have been following all the rules though, but I really want to get off my butt and do some exercise. I dont' know if any of you have heard of Leslie Sansone, Walk Away The Pounds DVD Series. Well, I have a few of her DVD's, and was thinking I could try just the 1 mile one. Just the walking, not the kicks or knee lifts or other movements.. just speed walking. What do you guys think??

I am starting work again tomorrow as well, but I will be working from home on the computer for the next couple weeks. I only work p/t as well so that helps.

I haven't really been able to just lay in bed and be waited on since I've come home a week ago. The day after I got home, my son came home as well, and he wasn't feeling good. He had a nasty cold. We did everything possible to keep me from getting it. The thought of coughing and sneezing all day with an abdominal incision scared the crap out of me. Luckily, I didn't get his cold and he is now all better.

That same day, our dog who we've had for 9 years presented with UTI symptoms. I got him antibiotics from our vet and he was great until Saturday night when his symptoms came back. He passed away at about 7:45 yesterday morning

So no, I haven't had a relaxing, pampering recovery. A lot of people from the community have brought me over pre-made meals and such. Which has helped a lot. I still don't think I will have to actually prepare a meal, other than tossing it into the oven, for at least a month. My freezer is right full.

So, since I have been somewhat on the more active side since I have been home, I was relatively fit pre-op. Can I try the WATP DVD??? If I were to start feeling pain I would definitely stop. My post-op checkup is March 4. I am really hoping the Dr will clear me for driving then too, this sitting around the house thing or begging for rides gets old really fast. I woudl go for a walk outside, but I live in the Canadian Prairies and it is very slippery out there right now. Lots of thawing/freezing and then hoar frost on top of it. Makes for a slick walking experience. And my house is too small to really do much walking in here.

Being a single mom, just losing our beloved dog.. I almost forgot that I had surgery just over a week ago. I feel Ok. I don't know. just thought I would ask some of you with more experience. The swelling is my major issue right now, and the walking DVD.. I would really love to be able to do that. It's not nearly as strenuous as the workouts I was doing pre-op, but at least it would be something, kwim??

Thanks for listening to my rant..

Megan

Re: Feeling pretty good, but...

Well I think I answered my own question about the exercise today. I was taken out for lunch today, and then we just made a quick trip to the grocery store so I could get my salad veggies as I was all out.
Well, I was in a bit of pain when I got back home, and then I still had to sit here at the PC to do my work.
My back was SO sore by the time I was done.. I'm assuming it is making up for my weakened abs? I'm not sure, I've never gotten a sore back from sitting here at the PC before.
So I didn't bother trying the exercise DVD today. Maybe tomorrow.
I would still like to know about the swelling though?? How long does it take for it to go away?
