Back From Surgery

I'm back home after surgery on Thursday the 25th. It's true, waiting is the hardest part. I had a few complications from the IV's but overall I'm doing great. Thanks to everyone here for all the support. Everything has been much easier than I imagined.

Nancy
I had surgery the same day as you did. I am glad to hear you are at home and on the mend. I also had a few complications with an IV but once they got it fixed things went OK from there.

I did have some bladder issues after surgery. They took the catheter out, but left the IV drip attached so my bladder filled up quite fast. But my bladder did not want to release all the liquid and was putting alot of pressure on everything. They did two bladder scans (brought the machine right to my bedside) to verify the bladder was not draining. They gave me medicine that turned my urine "Neon Glow-in-the-Dark Orange" and eventually the medicine took the pressure and pain away. Thanks Goodness. Once the medicine took over, it was much easier to Pee. I came home yesterday afternoon (April 29th). So I've been home a little over 24 hours.

My hubby has been a real jewel and so supportive. He did not want me to take steps up or down, so set up an extra laptop at our Dining Room table (on same level as our bedroom) so I could get on-line with all my "Sisters" without taking the stairs.

Keep us posted as to how you are healing and please have any of our other April 25 Sisters (or any sisters) post to this message when they are home and feel like sitting at the keyboard.

By the way -- While taking my "Walks" up and down the hospital hallway, I saw many Hyster Sister posters pinned up at several of the Nurses desks. I stopped and talked to a couple of the Nurses (who were not even my nurses) and I pointed to the poster and said, "This is a wonderful website. Please pass the word to any other women recovering from the same surgery." The nurses thanked me for telling them. They said they had just received these new posters and did not know a whole lot about the website but were very glad a patient found it useful. I was SO PROUD to be a sister that could pass the helpful word to someone else..

Cheryl,
Welcome home! Thought you might want to know that I have the same problem bladder wise as you do! If you go to the post op message board, you will see that we are not alone. I unfortunately am still battling this issue!
Best Wishes to you for a quick mend!
