5 week post op and feel horrible!!!

Had my hysterectomy 5 weeks ago and was doing really well except as my bladder empties I get pain. I have had my urine tested 3 times by GPs and they have said it clear!! When I do my pelvic floor its uncomfortable. I went back to my GP yesterday who did an internal which hurt and also did a swab...results not until next week. I am now on more antibiotics which have given me thrush. I have canestan pessaries which are not really working. I do feel quite uncomfortable on the right side of my vagina....feels like a lump....just feel really down today and feel like I did before my op!!! Can't even thing about having sex again!!! Has anyone felt like this and experienced any of this symptoms?

Re: 5 week post op and feel horrible!!!

princessja,

It sounds like you are experiencing bladder spasms. There is a description here in this article https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/article_383622.htm

It is not an uncommon occurrence after a hysterectomy because your bladder is a sensitive organ and it is moved/touched during surgery. There are antispasmodics your doctor can prescribe for you like Detrol or Ditropan that can relieve your symptoms. You can also temporarily take the OTC medication Azo Standard which is a pain reliever for bladders. I would check with your doctor before taking any medications though. Tell your doctor the pain is preventing you from fully emptying your bladder.

The lump you feel may just be due to post op swelling so I wouldn't fret about it yet. When is your post op appointment? You can write down your concerns and tell them to your doctor at your appointment. In fact, keeping a symptom diary may be helpful for you at this point.

I hope this relieves your worries some so you can relax and focus on healing.

Oh and one more thing...get some probiotics to help balance your system after taking the antibiotics.

Re: 5 week post op and feel horrible!!!

I also had pain urinating until about 3 weeks, I took the over the counter medicine, I think called uristat. It makes your pee go bright orange but relieved the pressure. My prayers are with you, once I started taking probiotics every night before bed it seemed to help.. My surgery was just a few days after yours and I started the probiotics last week and it seems to put my tummy in balance.
I wish my belly was in balance on the outside. I am 5 weeks Wed. and I look very pregnant. anyone reading this thread ice packs or heat packs to help tummy go down???
HUGS happy healing
