Upcoming hysterectomy: Back to work and driving

I am wondering how long most people take off work? Also how long do you not drive? I work at a car rental company; I don't have to drive but I do shuttle a lot of cars. So I am worried about what to expect.

Hi Sillymebee, You are having Tvh which sounds like 4 - 6 weeks is the advice for most ladies. This is dependent on anything else that they may find -e.g. endo. The more they do the longer everything takes. It is interesting that not eveyone has their cervix removed. I got to learn after the bomb shell that uterus, cervix, ovaries and tubes would be coming iut 2 weeks after biopsy results. So have a look at alternatives
so you have information to make an informed choice. Driving depends on what pain meds you are on, and the guidelines of your insurance company. I drove at 4 weeks, but then gave myself a few more days off. Keep asking questions (I am so bored after 5 weeks on 'HomeD' that this site is a blessing for something useful to do!) Best wishes

Yes, you can't drive if you are still on narcotic drugs. I was not but still didn't try until about 10 days out. I was exhausted and unfocused for the first few weeks so wasn't interested in driving and thankfully had no urgent need to drive. I stayed out almost 6 weeks and did about a week of light duty when I got back. Good luck!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy: Back to work and driving

I was not allowed to drive for 2 weeks, and even then my concentration was not what it should be to operate a vehicle. It took a few more weeks of local driving only before I felt comfortable enough to get on the highway. Put a small pillow or rolled up towel between the seat belt and your tummy to protect it.

Your dr should be able to tell you that, it depends on exactly what they will do and your individual situation. I went back from my TAH at 2 weeks, but I work part time and my job is just sitting or standing and walking around, no lifting or anything. I drove at 1 week, did not take any narcotics.
