I am new here, having a LAVH in 9 days
My name is Michelle I am 24, and I am having a LAVH in 9 days (September 13, 2004) I am affraid, I dont know what to expect. My husband has 2 weeks off to help out with our 4 children but what do I do after that? My Mother is handicapped and cannot help with cooking or taking care of my young children, I have no other family members that are able to help out. How long is the recovery period? How long do I have to "take it easy", I just have so many questions. Will I be able to take my kids trick or treating next month? Thank you all for you much needed replies. TIA.
Michelle

everyone's experience is different, you will not know until it happens for you. my MIL came out to take care of me after, she could not come until 1 week after, and by the time she came out i was fine, we went shopping alot. i still got tired and had to take a nap, but other than that was my old self. my husband took 2 weeks off to help out, and i was still glad he did, i got very tired around lunch time and needed a nap! i would say you will definately be able to go trick or treating, my doc said 2 weeks and you can resume normal exercise after a LAVH, it is the easiest to recover from. just do not over do it and take your 2 weeks to heal so you do not set yourself back.

Hi...
I had my LAVH/BSO at the end of March and didn't have anyone at home to care for me. I had a homemaker come in to help change the bed and vacuum, but that was about it. I really didn't have any trouble taking care of myself. Of course, I didn't have 4 children to look after like you do.
I think that you might be surprised at how well you feel at 2 weeks. I was driving, doing the grocery shopping (I did need help carrying the bags as I couldn't live anything over 10 pounds), but I did pretty well. You're fortunate to have your husband with you for the first two weeks. You might consider having a babysitter/housekeeper come in for a few hours during the day to help you care for your kids and help out around the house.
As for Halloween, you'll be 6 weeks post-op. At 6 weeks, I had a full work schedule of patients and surgeries (I'm a nurse practitioner) and did just fine.
I wish you a speedy and uneventful recovery!

Hello,
By two weeks I still tired easily but felt a whole lot better than the first few days. We took a 6 hour trip to the beach at 1 1/2 weeks, and I went back to my part time job at 2 1/2 weeks. By 4 1/2 weeks I was back in the gym and feeling like myself again. You will be amazed at how much better you feel each day. Everyone heals at different rates, so just listen to your body and your doctor. My doc was pretty liberal with activities, but I was extremely active before surgery. I have 3 children and the main thing to worry about with them was keeping them from jumping on me. Get as much rest as you can and take a lot of naps!
Best wishes to you.
