Day 10 post hysterectomy: Insomnia and increased pain
Hi everyone
I am now day 10 post op having had my uterus and tubes removed and cervix. Fur the last 2 nights I have had bad insomnia I am wondering if that is normal? I have reduced my exercise on hubby's instruction 3 days ago so am not walking 10 mins twice a day just walking around the house instead...boring. I wonder if that,s got something to do with it? I have also got increased pelvic pain which I am thinking might be related to me having had an a few orgasms yesterday as was missing my hubby and he was missing me. Since reading buster sisters I think this was a bad idea. My dr advised no sexual activity which I did not think meant orgasms? I guess I was wrong. Might have to ring my surgeon to check if I have done any damage. Any comments re above most welcome.

Re: Insomnia and increased pain
I'm about 2.5 weeks post op and my dr cleared me for orgasm on day 9 when I asked.
I've had extra pain the last 3 days that's keeping me awake and I think it's just part of recovery to be honest.

Day 10 post hysterectomy: Insomnia and increased pain
To help with the insomnia, I would recommend taking your walks outside, because our sleep cycles are dependent on exposure to sunlight during the day, and even just a little bit can make a major difference. I would also recommend avoiding caffeine after 3 PM, and turning off all electronics at least one hour before bedtime; they're both stimulants that can disrupt your sleep cycles. Also, if you kept your ovaries, they may have temporarily shut down, because of reduced blood flow, and that can also have an effect. If you're okay with eating soy, then 1-2 daily servings of tofu, edamame, or soy milk can help with hormonal balance. Here's hoping you'll get your soon!

Re: Day 10 post hysterectomy: Insomnia and increased pain
First, your husband's instructions really don't matter one iota. If you can handle 2 10 minute walks outside, take them.
Insomnia is completely normal, and is caused by hormonal changes with your ovaries losing their uterine, main, blood supply. Good sleep hygiene is important.
No sexual activity meant exactly that - no sexual activity, including manual stimulation or orgasms until cleared by your doctor. Orgasms cause a rush of blood and swelling to a recent surgical site with inflammation that is trying to heal. Rest today, ice on your belly and a frozen, water soaked maxi pad in your underwear, and ibuprofen or Aleve to help with the swelling should reduce the pain and cramps. If it doesn't, or you bleed so much you soak a maxi pad in an hour, call your doctor immediately.
You get one chance to heal without causing complications. Don't waste it.
