Hysto Tomorrow and TERRIFIED

42, recently married, no children. I've tried doing the brave thing...and it's so not working. I've got a husband who is completely shut-down, to the point I don't even want to speak to him at all. Since he is on the road a lot for his job, it's easier, not to have to deal with the looks of his own self-pity that make me want to scream. My mom just came up yesterday and so did my best friend. I get it...intellectually, just the emotional stuff is really rough. I want to know from anyone who has had one already what are some of the questions I should be asking once it is over? Is there a "list" somewhere?? I just want to make sure that I've covered all the bases.
Thanks much

Your doc. will pretty much tell you all your do's and don'ts once it's all over. After you wake up in recovery a nurse will be right there to take away any pain that you have. Don't be afraid to tell her what you are feeling.

I was up and walking(very slowly w/help) by that night after my surgery. It will be alright and you will get through it. Just listen to your doc. and do everything they tell you to do.

Take it easy and don't be to hard on yourself, give yourself lots of time. Make sure you rest and give your body the time it needs to heal right.

I bought myself a little notebook so I could write down all things I learned from this site and anything my doc. told me. In the hospital you get a little brain fog from the med.'s and it's hard to remember what they tell you. So I would write it down or have DH write it down.

I also used it to write down any feelings I was having at the time. As for DH, don't worry he'll come around. He's most likely just as scared as you are but is afraid to show it. My DH was not very supportive at all in the beginning. He did not want to talk about it and didn't want to hear about it.

When it came to the day of my surgery, he was right by my side. He was also very good about taking care of me afterwards. He mother-hen me like crazy, taking such good care of me. I found out later, he was just as scared as I was but didn't know how to handle it. Men have a harder time dealing with feeling than we do.

Stay strong sister, we'll be here waiting for you! Best of luck to you!

Hi, I remember that over whelming feeling that would hit me from time to time when I was waiting for my hyst. fear of the unknown can really get to me sometimes. Surprisingly though, I was very calm the morning of my surgery - maybe because the wait was finally over. I hope that you find the same
