Pre-Op question regarding no ovaries

I am so sorry for all of the posts. I am just so nervous about my upcoming stay at the castle but am looking forward to some pain relief. My main concern is surgical menopause. Those sisters out there who have had both ovaries removed how did you feel afterward? Did you notice a major change? I am just looking for others experiences.

Re: Pre-Op question regarding no ovaries

I had my total Hyst on November 19th and have noticed no changes. However, I am 53 and had not had a period in just over 1 year. It is not quite a week so not sure if things will change.

Re: Pre-Op question regarding no ovaries

I had my surgery on November 5, almost 3 weeks out and I have not had any night sweats or hot flashes. (knock on wood!) I am 50 but was still having regular periods. I was also concerned about sudden surgical menopause but really had no choice but to have my ovaries removed as well.

Re: Pre-Op question regarding no ovaries

I'm 45 and had my ovaries removed. I think I was in early perimenopause, because I would occassionally have warm flashes before surgery (not bad enough to be called hot flashes). I was worried about surgical menopause, but things seem to be going very well in that deptartment.

My doctor gave me a prescription for 2mg oestradiol tablets before surgery, which I filled and took to the hospital with me. I took my first one on the evening of the day I had surgery and have taking one every evening since then. I have noticed some warm flashes, but nothing more than before. I have had some headaches, which seem to come and go with no rhyme or reason, so I don't know if they're anything to do with the hormones or not, but they are getting less and less. I have not noticed any other symptoms. No dry skin or vaginal dryness. No mood swings or insomnia. And no side effects from the tablets either.

If you haven't already, I suggest you talk about hormone replacement options with your doctor. Oestrogen plays an important role in keeping us healthy in so many more ways than just preventing menopause symptoms. It helps prevent osteoperosis, aids in mental function, keeps the skin and hair healther and a load of other stuff.

Best of luck. I hope everything goes smoothly for you *hugz*

Re: Pre-Op question regarding no ovaries

HI,
I'm 41yrs old and had my ovaries/uterus/cervix all taken out. I went immediately into surgical menopause. I went through two sleepless nights, covered in sweat, itchy skin etc and started on Livial 48hrs post op.
No problems since, although I am feeling hot this weekend. Probably has more to do with the hot weather (coming into summer) than SM...
