I wish I could sell some of this gas

I'm 11 weeks post-op. The gas is driving me crazy.
I have to be soooo careful when I get up out of my chair at work. I pass gas and I can't control it. I have never ever had this problem before and I find it very unladylike and insulting.
Help me find a solution to this problem.
I was almost embarrassed to post this problem.
But I figured "If my sisters don't understand, who will?"

I wish I could sell some of this gas

At $2.80 per gallon, I bet you'd do well. Actually, I'm at the other end of the gaseous spectrum -- it actually is WORK to expell it...TMI - sorry. In the early days I used Phazyme and it seemed to help. You can always blame your chair!! We're supposed to eat fibre, but fibrous foods seem to give you gas. My mom swears by Beano. You take a drop or two before eating and it eliminates the would-be gas. Perhaps some other ladies will chime in -- guess none of us need whoopie-cushions!!

Gashead too!

Yep, I am a gashead too and am almost 5 months post op. It never seemed to be like this until recently and am wondering if going on Actonel has something to do with it. Any suggestions would be a BIG help from the sisters. This is getting to be a pain in the you know what literally. Almost had an embarrassing moment in my yoga class.
Help, I can't go on like this

I just asked my Dr. about this.

Are you guys still taking stool softeners?

I do,3 at bedtime. They soften... but also make gas!!!!!

Maybe that is it...just a thought.

I wish I could sell some of this gas

I take a gas x in the morning with my vitamin and iron. I don't have too much of a problem.
I know my grandmother could time her coughs to her farts pretty well.
There's a skill you might want to work on.

I wish I could sell some of this gas

I think I will have try that coughing trick. It seems every time I laugh, I fart. Very embarrassing when we had a bunch of friends over to watch a funny movie last weekend, they ended up laughing harder at me than the movie (I felt like I was in a room with a bunch of 10 yr old boys) LOL. Good luck ladies and I hope I learn that coughing thing, though I am gonna be coughing really loud (sorry TMI).

I wish I could sell some of this gas

Here's what helped me with my gas: I used maximum strength Gas-X at first, but probably the most important thing was that I modified my diet just a bit, referencing this website -
http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs12.htm

You can cut through all the preliminary readings if you want, and just scroll down to the "Foods That Contribute to Gas Production" section. At first, the list might look somewhat restrictive, but there are really a lot of simple substitutions you can make. For example, instead of peas or broccoli, have carrots or green beans. Instead of potatoes or pasta, have rice or rice noodles. Instead of bananas or apples, have strawberries or grapes. Have yogurt instead of ice cream. Try to cut back on breads and cereals, and when you do eat them, try to eat corn or rice based products (at least temporarily, as an experiment to see if they help).

Lean meat, fish, poultry and eggs should be fine, as long as they aren't heavily fried.

Notice that lettuce and tomatoes are not on the gas-producing list, so simple salads are fine, as long as they don't contain cabbage or other high-gas items.

One of the biggest things you can do to help yourself is to cut way back on carbonated beverages. You'll probably notice a very quick drop in gas production. I had a HUGE change when I started drinking water and juices instead of cokes and club soda (which was a real change of habit for me!)

Even if you don't eat completely according to the recommendations, you can at least make a few of the subsitutions throughout the day, which will lower your overall gas production.

Best wishes, and please let us know if diet changes helped your situation.
