Staples here ....
I've still got my staples (thirteen of them) and they're coming out on Friday. At first I was horrified to find out I had staples instead of stitches - it had never occurred to me that I would! Since then I was asking absolutely everyone I ran into whether or not getting them removed would hurt and so far no one has said they do (reading all the responses here has confirmed what I heard, too.)
I have just one tiny sensitive spot on the left side of my staples - that's the place I have to cover with something quick if I feel a cough or (God help me) a sneeze coming on!

Go for staples
Hi Beth, I had a TAH/BSO about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I had a dozen staples and I am a small woman. They took the staples out a week later and I didn't feel a thing. My incision looks fine considering this is my second abdominal surgery. My doc said there is less scarring with staples than sutures. Best of luck to you and God bless. Don't worry, the operation is not as bad as you might think. Email me with ANY questions you might have. Hugs, Peggy

Staples or Sutures for TAH
Hi Beth. Thats neat that your doc gave you a choice. Mine just said he would give me stitches (internally and externally) so I didnt have a choice, but the stitches were fine and he didnt have to take them out. They just disolve I guess. You do have those little tape thingy's that have to come off, but you can do that in the shower. I did a few at a time at about 2 weeks. My incision is very lovely! You can barely see it now.

Sound like Staples Aren't Bad
Thanks everyone for responding!
I'm so relieved to hear that staples aren't bad and don't hurt (much) when they are removed. Although my doc said he would do either staples or sutures, I got the feeling his preference was staples. So, it's reasurring to hear from everyone.
Thanks,
Beth

Staples or Sutures for TAH
Hi Beth,
I had my tah bso on 10/1. The doctor didn't give me a choice and I woke up with staples. They are kind of freaky looking. I had 21 of them. They were taken out 8 days after surgery. I was afraid it would hurt, but no pain at all. They didn't hurt while they were in either. Just felt a bit of a pulling sensation the last few days before they came out.
