Exhausted any suggestions?

Hey Everyone!

I am schedule for a TVH on 6/20/13 and am anemic. I am struggling to get through an 8 hour work day. I am having leg cramps and just feel so drained!

I am taking iron supplements and have increased my intake of vitamin C to aid in the absorption.

I am so physically tired at the end of the day that I just want to crawl into bed after getting home.

Anyone have any suggestions to help with this? I can't adjust my work schedule or I would, as I have to save my leave time for the upcoming surgery.

If only!!

Re: Exhausted any suggestions?

I feel for you, having had anemia myself. Eating red meat, mussels and leafy greens like kale and spinach helped me.

It might take a while for the iron+Vitamin C to up the iron levels, and help with your exhaustion. It took about a week-and-a-half before I started feeling stronger. If that doesn't work, maybe talk with your doctor about an IV iron infusion?

Hoping you feel better soon,

Re: Exhausted any suggestions?

Thanks! I have increased red meat intake (which is something I don't normally eat a lot of to begin with), and leafy greens. Seems my body is craving this! If I don't start feeling the effects soon I will call the doctor. It has been nearly 4 weeks since I started the supplements but I have also had severely heavy bleeding and it has caused my levels to drop even lower. UGH! I know it will get better!

Just really tired of being tired at this point! I am so ready to feel better as I have been dealing with this for nearly 3 years! I am anxious about the recovery but know this is the right decision for me.

Re: Exhausted any suggestions?

Hello Tamj,

I don't know all the circumstances and I am not a Dr - but maybe ask him/her about a high dose birth control for the next couple of weeks... to give your body time to catch up with the iron level by not continuing to bleed???

I wish all the best for you !!!

Re: Exhausted any suggestions?

I agree, ask the doctor. I had a blood transfusion and after many weeks of nausea, my levels were back up but again I started bleeding and bleeding. Even though the vitamins helped keep my levels up, the more I bled they energy level never came back. Finally my doctor gave me a prescription to help ease the bleeding.

I am only One week out from a abdominal hyster so I can't give you much advice yet on the post op.

I can say hang in there and I have to believe that once your post op and healed the energy level will return.

Good luck and here's to us not having to say "I'm tired of being tired!"
