32 yrs old. Need hysterectomy. Having a breakdown!!

Hi all. I'm very new to this but was hoping someone has experience and input...
32 yrs old. Cervical and uterine precancerous removed twice. Had Essure Implanted 4 years ago in tubes. Have early stages of Polycystic ovarian syndrome. Precancerous areas are back in uterus as well as fibroids causing heavy monthly visitors and anemia which we can't seem to get under control. After D&C we are officially scheduling hysterectomy.
So nervous. Do I keep the ovaries in and hope nothing worsens? Will I become a hormonal mess? Will sex be affected?
I feel like I am too young for this and am so scared of how it will change my body

Thanks for any input!

Re: 32 yrs old. Need hysterectomy. Having a breakdown!!

Hey there: )
I am not sure how helpful I can be to you, but I kind of wanted to give you a peace of mind.
I am 26 years old and had my hysterectomy on the 20th of April. I am 7 days post op and I had to have my hysterectomy due to stage II cervical cancer as well as PCOS, so we had/have similar issues.
I had to have my ovaries removed, they took everything. It's awfully upsetting when you think of everything... It's so much to take in and so much to worry about.
But this is what is helping me with everything; I take everything day by day and smile through the pain. Thinking about it just makes it worse. Mind over matter has been my motto and it's helping me so much.
They put me on a hormone patch while I was in the hospital and they told me to take it off on day 7, which is today. I took it off 7 am and I was feeling oddly weepy shortly after that but then I pushed the sadness to the side and realized I am healing. As for the sex part, I haven't been able to enjoy sex since literally March 2016 so I suppose I will cross that bridge when I get there.
Good luck! I hope what I said can help you, even slightly.

Re: 32 yrs old. Need hysterectomy. Having a breakdown!!

I'm 31 years old and scheduled to have a hysterectomy in late May. You're definitely not alone in this. I'm having mine removed due to fibroids and never ending bleeding. It's scary and every day I question if I'm doing the right thing (not having any biological kids) but trust that your doctor is doing what's best for you in the long run.
Good luck!

Hi MaldoPartyof5 to HysterSisters

I am so sorry you are going through all of this, but glad you found this site.

Your feelings, fears, emotions and anxieties are very normal. This is one difficult surgery to face and digest.

If you can keep your ovaries you should. Here is information on keeping your ovaries. If you cannot, here is information on HRT, Heart Disease, and Surgical Menopause as well as 5 Interesting Facts about Surgical Menopause. Here also in information on PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome/Disorder)

Sex after surgery is different for everyone. Some say it is better, some say it is worse and everywhere in between. Here are 10 Concerns about Intimacy after Hysterectomy.

Talk to your doctor about what options you have, and the pros and cons of keeping your ovaries given your medical situation. Then make the right decision for you.

Just know that you are not alone in any of this. We are here for you, and understand what you are going through.

Re: 32 yrs old. Need hysterectomy. Having a breakdown!!

I had a different type of cancer but do know that some uterine hyperplasias are more concerning than others (simple/complex, w/atypia or without). For actual uterine cancer, ovary removal is usually necessary, so how whichever particular pre-cancerous condition you have factors into that is a very good question for your doctor. We also have a Cancer Concerns forum you're welcome to check out, if you'd like.

As for all those crazy emotions, that's perfectly normal. This is major surgery, after all, and the additional anxiety with the hyperplasia just adds to the mix. Please know you definitely aren't alone in these feelings and try to just take one step at a time. Otherwise, things can become too overwhelming.

Sending hugs and all good thoughts your way.

Re: 32 yrs old. Need hysterectomy. Having a breakdown!!

I understand what your going through. If it helps any I had to have both of my ovaries removed! I’m still struggling with recovery as it has been a few weeks already but I have to be honest and say it has been the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Note, my recovery is longer due to stage 4 endo. But it is so worth it, I’ve already started menopause so I’m very up and down but feeling better emotionally everytime I have an up day. I can’t help you choose, only you can you can choose. But I do not regret removing both for a minute, I know it was what was right for my body. Really life ended up choosing for me in the end, since I couldn’t make up my mind either. But really if you want to remove them, go for it. You may feel up and down for a while, and may have a longer recovery process, but in the long run you will also never feel better. My pain is not the same as it was and half the time I’m ready to go run a muck! But again still healing with my ups and downs. But I love it and wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. And when your body is ready it will let you know when your ready for sex again, you could also end up with an increased sex drive like I did. But all in all I love that I did this. I’m 33 and even though I can’t give my future hubby kids, I learned to accept it, and be thankful to be alive. Remember some days this process will feel like forever but it won’t take forever. Good Luck!

Re: 32 yrs old. Need hysterectomy. Having a breakdown!!

Per the National Comprehensive Cancer Network's (NCCN.org) Guidelines for Uterine Neoplasms, "In premenopausal women with stage IA to B endometrial cancer, data suggest that ovarian preservation is safe and not associated with an increased risk of cancer-related mortality; patients were followed for 16 years. Other studies also suggest that ovarian preservation may be safe in women with early-stage endometrial cancer."

Talk to your doctor about this, but I'd say keep the ovaries.

Welcome 😍 I would ask the doctor if at all possible. You could keep at least one ovary. I was able to keep both ovaries. And a little scared since I had suffered from cystic ovaries and may have that PCOS.

If everything is removed your ovaries ,uterus ,cervix. The whole shindig, then from what I have read you will go into instant menopause.

I been on the other side of the hysterectomy still am an emotional mess. So it's normal to me, but ask the doctor. if it's possible to maybe keep one ovary.

Also I recommend an abdominal Binder. With. And or without the pocket, I bought both from this site. And I'm still wearing it off and on. From my surgery and I'm fairly new to this site. I will be praying for you, just try to remember in breathe. Hugs.
