Surgery was 4/4/08- hanging in there and grateful

My name is Meredith and I am 39, from Philadelphia. I had my surgery on 4/4 and was d/c from the hospital on 4/7. They had told me that I had endometriosis and would need just one ovary removed- the right one- and the uterus- that it had to be done by ab surgery- that the cyst was the size of a grapefruit. They said they'd check the right ovary for cancer, and as long as there was not cancer, that they'd be able to keep the left one.
The day before, I was on the liquid diet- it didn't have to be clear- so I was able to go to cold stone creamery , lol and eat the biggest ice cream I could find! The worst was that God awful fleets phosphos soda- GAG and an enema- more yuck.
The surgery that was supposed to take 3 hours, took 5 hours. Turns out that Thank God they didn't find cancer- but the endometriomas were SO awful that it took 5 hours and 3 surgeons to get rid of everything- and they couldn't salvage the left ovary (but I found out they were able to keep a small part of the right one- so it's on the fence as to whether I will go into surgical menopause).
I woke up and they told me they clipped part of my urethra- and had to put in a stent that comes out in 3 - 4 weeks- Ok no biggie- The next day they took out the cath, put me on clear liquids.

One thing I want to mention is that I lost 125 pounds in 2 years- and before surgery, was working out like a maniac- so I was in decent physical condition- though I still need to lose 30 some pounds. I am concerned about gaining weight during my recovery but I honestly am feeling positive about it. That as long as I eat healthy I will be fine

My recovery so far has been decent. I was put on solid foods the 3rd day. was already walking around. I am healing well- but the staples can be painful and my belly is a bit swollen.

It has made me realize how fortunate I am- The doc said that I had the worst case of endometriosis and endometriomas that she has seen.

First I want to say congrats on the weight loss!

I had my surgery on April 3, so I feel roughly the same as you. My bowel and left ovary was stuck together and stuck to my abdomen, so I have most my pain there. I had my right ovary removed 10 years ago, when I was 23.

I also had to wait a few days to eat solid foods, and I think that really helps with the nausea. Walking can be difficult and then times it is fine, strange how that is.

Good luck in your recovery and continuing with your wieght loss. I would also like to lose about 20 pounds.

I am 39 years old and I too had my uterus and one ovary removed on 4/2 for what was supposed to have been endometreosis but turned out to be fibroids on the outside of my uterus. I have been home for about 4 days and am doing okay. Had a slight setback yesterday with some serious consitpation that was awful. Now I am all swollen up again just like after surgery I plan to stay ahead of that from now on!!
My belly is relatively swollen, is yours? I have lost about 103 pounds in the last year or so and have about 20 to go too. So I am concerned about the weight, although my focus right now is on healing. They took my staples out before I left the hospital.

Hi! My surgery was on March 26 and I had an abdominal hyst but my ovaries were left. I am 2 weeks post op today and have to say that you are doing GREAT! Everyday is progress. You really do feel better everyday. I had heard that but now that I am experiencing it, I am encouraged! Congrats on losing the weight! Well done!! I turned 40 in September but in March of last year I too, started to lose weight. I was in good physical shape prior to my surgery and am wondering if any of you have this "bulge" sort of like a ridge or shelf above your incision? I had it immediately after surgery and I believe it is getting smaller however, I was wondering if you had this too?

P.S. Don't worry about the weight. You obviously learned ALOT when you lost your weight and that won't easily be thrown out the window! You are fabulous and don't forget it!!
