Two weeks post-op

I'm 2 weeks post-op and I just started going out the last couple of days. I went the store with my DH. He dropped me off at the door and I used the electric cart. We were under an hour but I was tired by the time we left. Today we took our dogs to the park I stayed on level ground and walked at a very slow pace. It was tiring but a nice change of scenery. Also it made my dogs very happy to get out of the house too.

Re: Can I go out?

I think getting out finally made me feel a little more normal. It made me want to pick up the pace just a little bit. But, I have to remind mycelf to take it a little easy still. I think you should get out and do a little more as time goes on, but be careful to not do too much.

Re: Can I go out?

My first time out was at 3 weeks. I decided to go back to work part time. After being indoors doing nothing but "resting and being pampered", I was getting bored. Don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed the pampering. But for me, it was time to start doing things a little at a time. Getting back to work was good for me, as long as I didn't overdo it. My body told me when to stop, and that's when I told everyone that I was going home. I'm 7 weeks out and I still have my days of feeling sore and not myself.

Getting out, even if it's walking around the block, and getting fresh air is the best thing to do.
Enjoy your time with your Mom.

Re: Can I go out?

I think it is down to how well you feel. If you feel up to going out then do so. I went out on day 5 and most days since. I drove the car briefly on day 11 and once since on day 14. I am now on day 19 and am walking for a mile or so and only occasionally having a nap during the day.

I consider myself very lucky to be doing this much but I am usually very active so am still doing a lot less than 'my' normal. I don't feel up to doing what I would normally achieve each day but am doing as much as I currently can.

Each of us is different - it has taken me a while to work out what my limits are - maybe you need to push yourself a little more to find out what yours are - but only if you feel ready to do that

Re: Can I go out?

Hi had a TAH on May 7, was home on May 9. Everyday since I've been home, I've walked around the block with my husband or a friend at a very slow pace. And the first time I left the house was May 12 so I guess that was only 5 days after my surgery. I didn't drive of course, but I felt like I needed to feel as normal as possible by just getting away from home for a brief time. My sister and I went grocery shopping for about an hour total. I didn't do anything strenuous at all. She did all the lifting...I guess the most strenuous thing I did was getting in and out of the car. At the grocery store we went to, I was also able to get some larger underwear (the elastic in all underwear I owned, hit right around my incision) so I was very happy about that purchase. And I also bought a pajama type of dress that I am living in now. So comfy. So that was Tuesday night.

Just yesterday (Friday), I went to see my Family Doctor to get a prescription refilled. She had no idea I had the surgery yet, as she hadn't yet received the reports from my gyno. She couldn't believe I was up and around but she did not discourage it. She thought it was great as long as I understood my limits. She just wanted me to gauge it appropriately and not over extend myself. She thought I was doing great. She was also great to talk to about the constipation and made a lot of helpful suggestions.

I am trying not to do too much too fast, but I also know that lying around won't help to heal me quickly. Tonight my husband and I plan to go to a movie. I'm just sitting there eating popcorn...how bad can that be? And the chairs at the particular theatre we are going to are very comfy/adjustable so I suspect it will be just fine.
