Nice Things to say
The doctor, nurses, etc were all wonderful and I had a room to myself.
The morphine pump worked perfectly and all was well in my world.
My parents came and stayed two weeks to help out and I loved having their company. I missed them when they left.
Received cards, flowers, letters from my kids at school, and email exchanges with staff and friends.
I lost 10 pounds in six weeks
No more periods and I can wear any color clothes I want.
Six weeks paid sick leave so I didn't have to rush back to work.
Six weeks off of work.
I have more energy now than I had before the surgery.

10 things I'm thankful for...
1. Happily surprised to find out the "family ward" at the military castle is no longer a ward - semi-private rooms and no roommate!
2. Post-surgical bleeding is really NOTHING, compared to a period!
3. Those lovely white linen pants I got for a song at Eddie Bauer Outlet - I'll finally be able to wear them! Whenever I want! I may even wear them BEFORE Memorial Day!
4. Hospital cafeteria served DOMINO'S PIZZA at lunchtime - oh yeah!
5. Didn't get sick from anesthesia, due to the lovely Transderm Scop patch they were so thoughtful to give me.
6. Flowers! Two entirely different arrangements in the exact same pink square glass container from my brother and from a friend, how wonderfully funny and beautiful!
7. DH and kids hugely helpful. DD and DS don't even grumble about helping out! DH cooks every night.
8. DH by my side as much as humanly possible, God, I love that man!
9. All those books on my "to be read" pile - and a chance to read them!
10. My loyal bichon, Pixel, always ready to take a nap with me whenever I need one!
What a great idea, nomorepads! Thanks!

4. After 40 years of heavy bleeding, cramping and other problems - NO MORE!!!
5. No more pain meds.

OK ladies - let's post the good things!
Surgery was a success. Not much pain afterwards...thanks to meds, terrific nurses and a wonderful family. My friends went above and beyond...one friend has contributed 5 meals and it's only been 2 wks - 3 days. Got beautiful flowers from DH's work, my friends and father-in-law and his wife. Got a puppy right before Christmas...so the day of surgery when my family came to see me...they brought a stuffed animal very similar to him and it sang. (he's a mutt, so it wasn't easy to find one that looks like him) I have no bad things to report whatsoever about this experience. I keep looking forward to full recovery...no more pads, tampons, accidents but of all - cramps, bleeding, constant pms...etc...you get the picture. I am so grateful that I boast about it. This is the best thing to happen to me in so long...aside from my kids and DH and new pup. This surgery is going to make life fun again and I can't wait!!!!!
All of this wouldn't have been as possible w/out my DH. He's help make my recovery truly a recovery. He's done every chore, helped our 7 yr daughter get ready for school, including putting up ponytails, made 3 meals a day - almost every single day, he even put in new hardwood floors in the kit and dining room - by himself - he's been so wonderful. Gosh - I love my man!!! My kids have been real troopers too. I am so blessed.

OK ladies - let's post the good things!
1. Wonderful people in the pre-op area who helped keep me calm while they tried to get the IV going (7 tries - ouch)
2. Private room in brand new hospital -- bathroom was HUGE!
3. Awesome doctor who did not quit trying to remove the uterus vaginally.
4. NO MORE PADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5. Being able to wear clothes that I had put to the back of my closet.
6. Not worrying that someone will ask "When are you due?"
7. Finding this AWESOME website -- it has been a godsend

OK ladies - let's post the good things!
What a terrific opportunity to reflect and give thanks for the gifts that have been presented within this hyster experience for me.
[*]My DH has been calm, patient, loving and supportive in word and deed through this entire experrience, and I love him so much! :superman: [*]My DS (x4) and DD (x1), all grown have supported me, each in his or her own way. I have had a chance to related to them as true adults and see how much they care. Makes me cry it touches me so much! [*]The wonderful teaching staff with whom I work who went the extra mile to help out our students and the subs who took over for me.[*]The students who communicated with me through email and notes on their assignments (picked up by my DH so I could grade them). Their get well messages mean a lot to me![*]My doctors --anesthesiologist, urogynecologist, and gynecologist--were attentive, kind, so very competent, and non-judgmental--as they met some needs I had in order to feel emotionally safe enough to have the surgery I needed,[*]The hospital administration took extra care to make sure I had a private room with a large private bath with shower that could run forever without running out of warm water. [*]Pain meds truly worked for me and allowed me comfort during those early days.[*]Eight weeks off to enjoy my family at the holidays, my DH (off for 5 of those weeks with me), sleeping and reading the days away.
Now, at 8 weeks out, I am back to work, have a two-thumbs up from my doctor about my healing, will never have another flooding period, and am smiling as the newly remodeled equipment works very well! :
Thanks, too, to all of my hystersisters for their humor, support and caring!

Hysterectomy: January 22nd, 2007
Surgery Type: LSH
Ovaries: Removed both

Had sucessful LSH
I had a Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy & Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy on Jan 22nd 2007.
So far no complications. So that is good. I just have some light post op bleeding. But based on what I've read, it is perfectly normal. I go in for my 2 week post op check up tomorrow.
Another good thing regarding the procedure I had; the OB/GYN's office I to went to had a lot of experience doing LSH and LAVH's.
Other women I spoke at this same office all said how good these doctors were and loved to do LSH / LAVH.
Two doctors performed this surgery on me and it only took them 1 hour 40 minutes to complete. Whoo hoo!!
I have read on here, that not all Ob/Gyn's have the equipment and/ or the experience needed to do this.
So I guess I got lucky finding the right doctor and the LSH & BSO were 100% covered by my Blue Cross insurance!
