Scared-Atypical Cells in Path Report
I just came back from my 2 week appt, had a wicked bad UTI with bleeding and flulike symptoms....all set with that.. The dr hadn't yet received the Path report...so she called the Pathologist at the hospital where she practices...the good part of the report indicated that the myoma (fibroid) was smooth and ok...however, she also found necrosis (from previous UAE 5 years ago which is normal, and ATYPICAL cells...that is what scares me...she sent it out to Boston for another opinion. I don't want to freak out yet, but it is scary. The Pathologist did say the necrosis is normal for a UAE, but would the Atypical cells be??? anyone out there that has come across this and can share, I would be forever grateful...this site got me through the Davinci hyst and I am so happy that I found this site......

Re: Scared-Atypical Cells in Path Report
Atypical cells could mean anything... inflammation, pre-cancerous changes, enlarged cells... I think it's a great thing that your doctor is sending your path report out for another opinion. Waiting is the hardest thing, but your concern right now is normal. I don't know whether it might be easier or harder for you to get a copy of your path report and do research on your own - sometimes "a little information is a dangerous thing."
Hopefully this is really good news - that the doctors could not determine for certain that it was cancer, and they are being cautious and taking a deeper look to make sure.
Best wishes!

Re: Scared-Atypical Cells in Path Report
Dear Bandimal,
You are right, knowledge can be a dangerous thing and I am grateful that they are taking a closer look at it...my sister and I were talking about this as we are both in healthcare (non-nursing), however, we have always been active in our and our parents healthcare issues and we tend to be very informed.......we did talk about me getting the path report and part of me wants to read it and totally understand it, and of course, obsess, but, I am not a medical person, so I can do much more damage...so, I think that I will wait to hear the results from Boston. Thank you for responding in the way you did, calm and logical, makes a difference!!!
