Spinal or general anesthesia

Hi,
I had a TAH on April 25th and for me, choosing between what they call the "spinal block" and general anesthesia was hard. I decided to write this post so it may help some of you who are also struggling with the same decision.

Both the surgeon and the anesthesiologist highly recommended the spinal. I was scared of it but went ahead and I am so happy I did! I found the procedure not painful at all and within I would say one minute (not even), my lower body was numb. They did give me sedative drugs so I sort of fell asleep. I do not remember anything about the surgery.

What I liked about the spinal was that I did not have pain when I woke up whatsoever. They gave me pain killers and anti-inflammatory medication and to this date, the pain is really minimal. I am very happy I chose the spinal and would go that route again! I would say the recovery goes very well so far, I went to the doctor's office 4 days after the surgery to have the staples removed. So far, no signs of infection and my bladder is doing great. I have some constipation issues but I am drinking plenty of water and used stool softeners last night - it already helped me a lot.
