5 Days Post-Op - No Bowel Movement Yet

Oh, I hear ya! I didn't poop until I was 5 days post op, and I was so worried. I didn't take any laxatives or stool softeners, but I did change my diet drasticaly! I cut out all breads and other 'binding' foods, and ate tons of fresh fruit (grapes, watermelon, blueberries, strawberries), prunes, and fresh veggies (olive oil on veggies helps too). I also took a fiber supplement every day. I hope that helps you. Try not to worry, you will go eventually! Hang in there!

Try the glycerine suppositories (one brand name is Colace..I think that comes in a pill form also). I had to use one just this afternoon to get things going again. I'm 4 months post-op and need to keep alert to how long between bm's and how my abdomen feels...the past three days I've been feeling "toxic"; just today I realized that I hadn't had a good movement since last Tuesday. So back to the suppository (today only) and nightly stool softner tablet.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I decided to use a Ducolax Suppository. Did the trick, I felt so much better afterwards!! I was miserable, relief was much appreciated. Now if all my other aches and pains would go away I could be a happy sister again......

I'm glad the suppository worked!!! YAY.

But remember ... one thing at at time ... the aches and pains will slowly go away too. The one thing I am learning ... the virtue of patience!

Hang in there.

i got so constipated that i was throwing up, my doc told me milk of magnesia liquid every two hours until i pooped. took four doses, and then HELLO! i could have had a colonoscopy the next morning! spent most of the night on the toilet, but the lack of sleep and diareah was worth it, to me, for the relief.

SENNA. It can be found at any drugstore. It is not a laxative per say, it just holds the water in the stool to help it move thru. It works wonders for me.

okgal,
I'll have to try the Fiber 1 and prunes. I do plenty of the water, no kidding on that....of course, I haven't been doing my apple-a-day lately either and that seemed to be a key for me too...Sometimes it's so hard to get just the right balance in anything!!
