Pain at 3 months

HI Everyone!!
I just had my 3 month check up and the surgeon didn't give me an internal exam, and again like all my other appointments didn't answer any of my questions. I told him my lower belly still hurt when i get out of bed and that i still have pains and he just said that, that was normal and if i was still having pain in 1 year to go back. My surgeon is very cold and arrogant. He is a good surgeon, but if it wasn't for this site i wouldn't know what was going on. Does everyone else still have a sore stomach after 3 months. AND when is it safe to start exercising?
Take care everyone
Deb

Pain at 3 months

Hi Deb
I'm sorry your surgeon has left you with quesions. We can all understand how frustrating that would be even if we didn't have it happen to us.
I will agree with him somewhat that the soreness in your tummy sounds like it could be normal healing still taking place at 3 months. I didn't have the abdominal incision but I know I still had more pain than I dreamed I would have at 3 months when I did certain things. You are still healing and will be for about a year. We are all different in what we experience and how quickly we stop hurting with certain activities.
If you have been released by your dr you should be able to start exercising. I would suggest you take it very slowly at first. A good walking program is a very good place to start. If you're feeling up for other things, just start slowly and work your way into it. If it causes you pain back up and try a gentler approach. I had to go to a physical therapist to get some help. If you have problems with pain be sure to ask for some help. Maybe your dr would be willing to refer you to someone if its a problem. You might want to look in Hysteritaville. It's a forum specifically for fitness issues after a hyst.
I hope it goes well for you.

Pain at 3 months

Hi deb,
We must of had the same dr. My dr. was not only arogant but good looking too and new it. He thought he was it. He was definitly a good dr. though.
I had quit a bit of pain still at 3 months and even now if I do too much I will get pain. Everyone is different but I would say that it is not out of the ordinary to be having some pain still.
When that happens just sit back and take it easy for a while and pamper yourself some more. Everyone could use pampering from time to time.

Pain at 3 months

Hello, we had our surgery the same day.. As for exercise.. Take is slow. I worked out too much last week and paid for it all weekend (I was on the couch most of the time) I didn't do any ab work so I thought I would be ok. WRONG!!! I did the elliptical 30 minutes twice last week. I think that is what did it.. Think this week, I'll stick to the treadmill. I also did 2 circuit training classes. Again didn't do any ab work. My doctor told me no ab work for 6 months or so and no leg
lifts. As for the pain.. It's still there.. A reminder that I had major
surgery.

Pain at 3 months

Hi Peacelily, I am so glad I found your thread, I still have pains and was starting to get a bit worried, my tummy is sore and I still get swelly belly when I do too much. I have found swimming is great, I take it really easy - I get very tired but it feels good to be doing it. My GP said it was normal to still get the pains and swelly belly. Take care.

Pain at 3 months

Hi Sally 12, I also still have swelly belly. I can't wait until it gets smaller.
I started wearing support undies this week and i feel better.
I still have some pains and i hurt when i get out of bed(near my incision) but it's normal. I still enjoy my epsom/sea salt baths and my incision is healing well because of that. I just put about 1/4 of each in the hot water to dissolve it and then i add warm water. Along with helping my incision it also makes your skin so smooth and the dead skin falls off your feet when you rub them after you get out. So it's good all over!! Take care and take it easy.

Pain at 3 months

Hi Deb,
Thanks for the advice - I will have the sea salt baths, I did initially but my incision healed quickly, but I will definately do it again for the smooth skin! When my swelly belly is not too bad I wear the support pants as well and they really do help. You take care and take it easy too, one day we will be healed!!

My incision site is sore again lately, too--my surgery was about a week after yours.
