what is an anchor knot??

Hello everyone. Okay, I've hit the three week post op and am feeling crappy. I was walking everyday since I came home from the hospital and was doing a block for every week I was post op, so I was up to 3 blocks a day, walking slowly. Two days ago, I started having an uncomfortable feeling, above the incision, off to the right side. Occasionally it's the left side too. I called the Dr. complaining and was told to take tylenol (which doesn't help me at all, even for a headache) and was told it was most likely where the anchor stitch was. I was also told to cease all activities for the next couple of days because maybe I was overdoing it. But what is an anchor stitch and what exactly is it doing? Anyone have any idea? thanks....

what is an anchor knot??

From what I understand from my Dr it is where they put the final strong stitch in the muscles (one on each side) where they put the muscles together, also there is a final stitch from where they sewed you up, depending on which side of the table the Dr is standing. Some women get the 'right side' pain and some get the 'left side' pain. I could dead wrong but I got more pain on my left side and my Dr told me I had anchor stitches on both sides where they put the muscles together.
I hope I have helped.

what is an anchor knot??

Duchie,
Thanks for the explanation of what that left side discomfort is that I have! It makes sense now. I am going to ask my gyn about that at my Well Woman exam next week. I asked her at my two week post-op check and she didn't seem to understand the discomfort I described to her.

what is an anchor knot??

I have an anchor knot/stitch whatever, one on both sides. I wanted to clarify here. Dr said this is where you will feel discomfort from the muscles contracting over those knots. I felt mine more on the left. Don't get me wrong, I felt some on the right but mostly on the left and my left side is more swollen than the right.
Is this Dr the one who actually did the surgery? I see two Dr's one who actually did the surgery and one who works with him.
