Outside in the cold after hysterectomy

Hello,

Anyone spend time out in the cold weather (45F) 2 weeks post-op? How did you feel afterward?

I was at my kids game for 1.5 hours last night - didn't realize the temps we're going to drop that much. I am completely beat this morning.

Looking to see if I have company in this regard.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Out in the cold

It's cold here everyday since my surgery. I go outside everyday. There no such thing as a too cold weather, only not enough warm clothes

Put on warmer clothes and don't hesitate to go outside

Maybe 1.5 hours was to much two weeks after surgery, even if it wasn't cold.

Re: Outside in the cold after hysterectomy

I would vote for the 1.5 hours out as what caused the exhaustion with the temp being secondary..

Agree, it was pretty dumb although I was pretty bundled up. I figured it isn't any different from sitting outside in the patio but what was I thinking? It is pretty strenuous indeed even though I had my feet up.

Could be both. I spend a lot of time outdoors year-round and find that being outside in extremes of temperature (both really cold and really hot) tires me out more than being outside for the same time in moderate temperatures.

Some tips:
- Whether or not you're in the sun has a big effect on how cold you get. Sitting in the sun on your patio is different from sitting in the shade.
- Whether or not you're in the wind has a big effect. If your patio is sheltered from the wind, that's different from sitting in a more open area.
- Whether or not you're up and moving around has a big effect. I can get out and walk for miles in the winter, no problem, but the moment I sit down I start to lose heat.
- Layers, layer, layer, layers. With a parka on top. And don't forget your head (esp. ears and face), hands, legs and feet. Consider chemical hand- and footwarmer packs for your hands and feet if these areas are a problem for you. (I have Raynaud's.) Buy large enough winter footwear - jamming on a too-small boot over layers of socks cuts off your circulation and freezes your feet faster. Smear your feet with Vaseline before your put your socks on to avoid chilblains.

I *enjoy* being outdoors in the winter, but I dress for it like an astronaut leaving the shuttle to do an EVA! :-)
