Mesh Removal & Insurance

I went and saw a doctor in TN on December 21, 2016 for the pain associated with my mesh and even though he said it was a long shot, he would TRY to remove my remaining mesh and get me out of this living hell. He was also going to do a couple other procedures during that time so that he wouldn't have to put me under again and put me at a bigger risk of complications. I have heard great things about him and decided to take a chance on him since almost every other doctor has turned me down. My concern now is whether or not insurance is going to deem this procedure as being "medically necessary". The fear of surgery doesn't scare me, it is the insurance companies that scare me anymore. I had one surgery in Atlanta but the doctors office didn't work with insurance so I had to come out of pocket and I have seen other doctors say that too and then you have those that DO work with insurance and blah blah blah. Has anybody had their mesh removal denied by insurance? My mesh was put in during my TVH in April 2012 and I have had endless problems since. My husband and I are on the verge of divorce, this has taken a huge toll on our marriage and I am in so much pain, I can't stand it anymore. My initial removal was in June 2015 but it was only a partial sadly....grrr! I am scheduled for my next surgery on 2/17/2017 and according to my doctors office, they can start getting approval from insurance for my surgery on 1/17/2017 so I am biting my nails and freaking out because I cannot afford for anything to go wrong, I seriously feel like I am dying from the inside out and I just don't know how much more I will be able to take if I have to cancel surgery and appeal the decision, pushing surgery back even further. My sex life is gone, I have gained weight, I can't work out anymore, I can't stand for long periods of time, I am in constant pain and as the days go on, both my husband and myself watch me progressively get worse

Re: Mesh Removal & Insurance

Please be very careful. I am in Tennessee too. I had to have blood transfusion, had 2 surgeries in one day, 1 week in the hospital, ( that was in 2014) I ended up going to Ucla in California, their are doctors there that can and will help you. It was very hard , but he saved my life. I was close to divorce, I was a miserable person in so much pain and infection after infection.
Please research all you can. I would not advise another partial removal.
I went to Ucla in 2015 and had all of the mesh and anchors removed.
I'm so sorry you are going through this. It's horrible. I do not know any doctors in Tennessee that have been successful at total mesh removal. I'm on the other side now.

Mesh Removal & Insurance

I just had my fifth surgery done because of exactly what you described. My insurance has paid for most. I am now working with the top Doctors in the country. They believe that have most of my mesh out. But the pain in my hips and still during Intercourse was excruciating. They just placed botox in my vagina and now I will find out if it works or not. Don't give up. Go to the best specialist you can. They make a difference.
