Re: Surgery scheduled.....getting nervous
Wow....so the Endo is causing this???? I should know by now...I've only had it for 30 years or more (and 2 laparoscopies later). But, we "forget" after surgery and it gets better for "awhile". But I've never seen anything like this....I get downright HUGE....in a matter of minutes (30 or less). Sigh...

Just wondering if anyone had some advice on how to RELAX. I am even thinking about this in my sleep, which needless to say, makes it hard to stay asleep. I thought I was okay with going through with this, but I just can't seem to settle my nerves.
Any advice would be great....just need some support. Thanks

My surgery will be on May 24 and I have gone through a whole grief process. I saw a counsellor a few times who has helped me deal with this. As well, I have been practising meditation and plan to do this the morning of the surgery and even after I have climbed unto the OR table! Don't know if either of these ideas might help you...

Re: Surgery scheduled.....getting nervous
I know what you mean about miserable weather in the midwest. Will spring ever get here? Those positive thoughts, support from your community of faith, us sisters, yoga, deep breathing, and exercise can all help. I've also read not to look at the post-op threads, because they can increase anxiety. When I'm nervous, I like to read the tips from sisters who have been to the castle.
Perhaps you have some exercise videos you can do until you can get outside? There are lots you can download on netflix/youtube.
Sending hugs, sunshine, and warmth your way,

Re: Surgery scheduled.....getting nervous
Sure Deanie, With the help of the counsellor, I have been able to face, accept and let go of feelings of grief and work on fearlessness. I find what really helps me when I start to feel afraid again is to bring my awareness to acceptance of the necessity of the surgery, trust in my doctor, gratitude for my children and what my uterus has done and that there are times in our lives when we have to let go and this is one of those times....
With regards to meditation, I practise focusing my breath, raising windhorse and tonglen which are aspects of Shambhala Meditation.

Re: Surgery scheduled.....getting nervous
I too am scheduled for a TAH BSO LNS on 5/11! I am also nervous but more about post-op side effects than the surgery itself (I have had a lapratomy before and laprascopic gall bladder removal). So glad there are others on here with the same surgery date. We can confer pre and post op. I just posted on the new here forum and I am really pleased to have found these forums, what a great tool for coping and understanding all of this stuff.

Deanie, Trae, EndOfRope...
Let's all keep in touch over the next few days if we can. We all have Dr's appts but I think it will help with the anxiety, since we're all schedule within a few days!!!
I have anxiety, too....just trying to get to the date and get it behind us.
xoxo

Re: Surgery scheduled.....getting nervous
I have been keeping really busy .... my daughter had her first Jr High dance, I had a HUGE garage sale (just ended yesterday), now today I am gonna work in the yard, get it ready since I can't weed or anything after for awhile(yes working on Mothers Day), then work the next 2 days (blood work Mon)... so kinda hoping I don't have much time to think about it...
Gotta pack yet too & clean house after working outside. So thats my goal, stay so busy I don't worry! LOL
