Post Hysterectomy Symptoms - HELP

One year post hysterectomy (left ovaries in) I started having severe migraines (passing out), constant dizziness, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, exercise intolerance and chills.

The endrocrinologist/OBGYN stated I was having flucuations in my estrogen levels due to the removal of the uterus (the removal of the uterus was causing a decrease in blood supply to the ovaries). She placed me on a low dose estradiol patch. Within 1 week I developed severe vertigo. We tried several patches and combinations of estrogen to not avail (vertigo remained). The last thing she said to me was "I know what is wrong with you, but I can not help you".

My symptoms were so bad I had to quit my job and was put on long-term disability for a year and a half.

I read every book I could find on menopause and hysterectomies with little help.

I finally explored soy as an option. I now drink a cup of soy milk 4 x per day and take black cohosh 2 x per day. I also eliminated all dairy products in my diet and the nausea, vomiting, diarrhea have vanished.

It is 4 years later and still struggle with migraines, intermintent dizziness, tachycardia, chills and exercise intolerance. I am back to work part time, and still find any physical, or emotional stress will set off symptoms.

I would love to hear from anyone who has had, and is having a similar experience and what has worked for you. I am still trying to find answers for my goal is to go back to work full time and be able to be a wife to my husband.

Re: Post Hysterectomy Symptoms - HELP

Tina
A hysterectomy can be so debilitating for some women. More than most people realize. I am very sorry you've been suffering. When you suffer so does your family. It can be devastating.
It sounds like you are on the right path by changing your diet. I am happy for you. I also believe that there are solutions out there but, for some women, it may take a lot of work and perseverance to find their solutions.
Migraines are so tough to treat. Have you considered trying a new doctor for a fresh new look at your issues or trying estrogen again but in a different form? There are many different types of transdermals.
I had a tough time after my hysterectomy also. I have learned I can not go without ERT otherwise I am severly depressed and utterly useless. I tried many types of ERT to find my right "hrt cocktail". I could not tolerate the patch...it gave me mood swings and headaches. I now use the Femring and supplement with estrogel as needed. My headaches are still there but much better than on the patch. I find the headaches come from the sudden changes in my estrogen levels. The ring is more steady and more gentle on my system. My body and brain are so sensitive to fluctuating hormone levels.
I hope that you find an answer soon so you can get on with your life.
