Tuesday Scheduled - Drinking

Trying to cut back on both drinking and smoking....(arrrgh) Will I be "okay" if I have one drink on Monday and maybe 5 ciggs?

No idea on the drinking. I'm schedule for Dec 4th, and would really like to go to my normal first Thursday outing on the 3rd. It's a no brainer not to get dehydrated and not ever be able to sip water, but... I don't know. I'd still like to have one last night of frivolity.

About the ciggies, I'd do all I could to get off the danged things prior. You're going to have to do deep breathing to 'pop' your lower lungs back out, and any coughing with an abdominal surgery in my experience was hell. Plus I'd want to kill someone if I gave myself permission to smoke and was prevented from it by someone else. Those buggers make me irrational. Have you ever had (short term) success with quitting prior to this?

I was informed of all my pre-op restrictions in a pre-registration phone conversation with a hospital nurse. I don't know about the smoking, since I stopped smoking several years before my hysterectomy. With the alcohol, I was told to have no alcohol for 24 hours prior to the surgery.

Check with your own doctor or hospital to be sure, just in case doing something you shouldn't could cause any complications with the surgery.
