blood clots

The shots are sub cutaneous - just under the skin. Tiny little needles, just a very slight sting and a little burning. A blood test is yuckier in my opinion. Trust me, nothing to worry about.

I had my heparin shots in my thighs. I barely felt them. I did end up with bruises from them, so don't be surprised to see that!

Just wondering if you could describe your leg pain to me.

I am 3 months post op and having bad leg pains in my right thigh, they wake me at night, even.

I have anticardiolipin antibody clotting factor and because of this my doctor has chosen not to do my hysterectomy...and I'm 53 and not in menopause yet. My mother has the same and I now have many cousins with factor V.

As far as life long changes to prevent blood clots;
Do not cross your legs while sitting
Do not sit for any more than 1 to 2 hours at a time
Do take two walks a day AM and PM
Do get up and move around on a plane, train, at work, etc
Do wear support hose when possible
Do elevate your legs above your heart while relaxing
Do monitor any bruises
Do change your shoes during the day ( when you get older )
Do not stand still on concrete or any surface for too long

Green vegetables are natural clotting foods
A glass of wine, if you par-take, a natural thinner
Aspirin if your doctor suggests
I.D. bracelet as mentioned
Have family members checked for clotting factors
Do not mix or add meds or herbs without doctor knowing
Monitor yourself after any trauma, hit on the head, etc

I was told to call the doctor if I had:
Sever Butt pain, thigh pain, leg pain
Lump with tenderness felt along any vein path
Chest pain with or without cough

Knowing you have this factor is more than half the battle. Go forth with NO MORE CLOTS EVER

REGARDING THE SHOTS IN THE ABDOMEN, THEY REALLY SOUND WORSE THAN THEY ARE. IT HURT MORE TO GET BLOOD DRAWN OUT OF MY ARM! IT IS JUST A SLIGHT PINCH. NOW I DO STILL HAVE BRUISES ON MY STOMACH FROM THEM AFTER 2 WEEKS, BUT I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THEY WERE NOT THAT BAD! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SURGERY.
