2 days post hysterectomy: Jumping awake

I've noticed that when I doze off to sleep, I wake up suddenly, like when you are dreaming you're falling and your body jumps. Could it be a side effect of the anesthesia?

Re: Jumping

It is possible, but the ansethesia should be out of your system in a couple days. When I take heavy narcotic pain meds I tend to do that, so it may be your pain meds, or it could just be that you aren't getting into deep sleep. Hopefully it will disappear soon.

Re: Jumping awake

I would have problems with my legs jumping and jerking really bad. Not sure if it is a similar issue...

Re: 2 days post hysterectomy: Jumping awake

Hi there! I am also 2 days post op and having the exact same experience with sleep. I am more sore today than the last couple of days as well. I just start to doze and then jerk awake, which feels very disorienting. I am blessed to have my mom in town to help & my partner is being a rock star working shorter days so he can be a support too. I am woozy (a lot of the time) and lack appetite in general. I am confident this is just part of the healing process as I have no other symptoms (fever, bleeding and the like). I am just chalking it up to the pain pills for now. This morning, I readjusted my sleeping position in to my side with a pillow between my knees and actually slept well for 2 hours! I hope you get your much needed rest! Xoxo

I see you've had your ovaries removed. As I understand it, your female hormones regulate your sleep cycles, so your issues could be a result of hormonal withdrawal. I would therefore recommend speaking to your doctor about your hormones. Your can also try other techniques, like avoiding caffeine within 6 hours of bedtime, turning off all electronics 1 hour before bedtime, and deep breathing or relaxation exercises. Also be sure to get regular exercise, like a daily walk, which can also help to regulate your sleep cycles. Best wishes for your continued recovery!
