Comples Ovarian Lession and elevated CA 125

I am a mess right now... I seen a gyn/onc a few weeks ago. He told me he did not feel the small lesion on my left ovary was cancer due to me being "young". He told me to go see a regular GYN did that on the 20th. GYN agreed with gyn/onc but decided to do CA 125 due to 3 of my great grandmothers having ovarian cancer (2 of which were in there mid to early thirties). My doctor has lab results available online so I just hopped on the site and seen my CA 125 is elevated. It was 56.1. Nobody bothered to call me today with the results so I will be calling tomorrow. What do you ladies think? Should I be freaking out? I have been in so much pain for the past 5 months and the lesion has been there since June and is slowly (very slowly) getting bigger. It was only 2 cm about a month ago (MRI)and was 1.5 cm in June when it was first seen on Ultrasound. I also had a CT done in August which noted abdominal caking which they said was most likely due to scar tissue from having so many abdominal surgeries.

Re: Comples Ovarian Lession and elevated CA 125

If it was me I would be getting another opinion either from another regular gyn or gyn/onc. Your levels aren't extremely high and the lesion may be elevating it without being cancerous but I wouldn't stop until I got an answer that satisfied me, especially if you're in pain. My mother had ovarian cancer and her levels were way higher, in the thousands. But if you are concerned, I'd keep looking for answers.

There could also be a non cancerous cause, Endometriosis is benign, but can be very invasive and painful, and can cause ovarian masses as well as elevated CA 125. Not all doctors are savvy on the the Endo and elevated CA 125 connection so I would ask the doctor what their experience is with endometriosis, as well as any potentially cancerous conditions.
