Counting down but need some help!

I’m less than a week out and feeling like I’m forgetting something.

I’ve got my bag packed for the hospital (my favorite comfy yet elegant pj’s {black}, Asian embroidered floor length Kimono robe, toiletries, and 2 books. I’ll leave the hospital in the same maxi dress I arrive in.

The house is ready-ish. Bedroom re-arranged, TV brought in, table placed closer to the bed, lounge chair on the back patio.

This weekend I’ll be doing some final work in the garden, about 800 loads (exaggeration but only slightly) of laundry, spring cleaning, having a super romantic surprise night arranged by my amazing other half.

Yet I still have THAT feeling…

WHAT AM I MISSING??

CheekyPeaches,

Didn't seem to matter what I did to get ready I still had THAT feeling. So does that mean its normal? Its not like you're planning to be flat on your back for a month, you should be able to do a few things around the house. Walking around is good for you! You sure seem to have things under control.

It's normal to be worried. You may not get everything done but thats okay.

Re: Counting down but need some help!

I planned weeks in advanced of making sure things were done, bought, washed, and cleaned. the night before I was nervous and wondering all the waht ifs. The next morning, I was more nervous and cried all through my shower. I packed my bag at the very last minute and I do mean last minute and even brought along my camera. I think taking pics up until the surgery calmed me down a bit. Before you know it once you are in the pre op room...everything goes very very quickly! Hope everything goes well. Im coming up on my 3rd week post op and my body is still throwing off those signals of "wait a minute...don't over do it!!!" Word to the wise...get alot of movies to watch!!!!

Re: Counting down but need some help!

I think that's very normal. I worried too, and actually I packed too much. But I'm a sleeper, and spent just 24 hours at the hospital. I wore their nightgowns and those fantastic undies. Used my toiletries (brush, toothpaste, etc), slippers, and robe.

One thing you might want to do, make sure you have plenty of food or snacks and drinks (especially drinks) ready. I didn't feel like eating a lot, so I had a lot of light meals planned and nearly prepared. I live alone, so this was a big help. If you have someone at home, make sure they can help you make meals or get them for you.

I watched a lot of movies and surfed the internet too. btw, using your laptop is actually soothing - the heat works wonders for your tummy

Cheeky

You didn't mention what kind of surgery you are having, but a good idea is to go and buy some granny panties!!! You may not think that you'd need them---I still live in mine

Re: Counting down but need some help!

I keep hearing about granny panties. I went and bought some new "I'm never having a period again so I'm buying cute undies that I won't ruin!" panties. But I think I need to invest in some comfortable "omg... so comfortable" granny panties.
Also, as a pre-surgery treat for myself, I bought myself an iPod. I don't sleep well and I don't think I'll have the attention span for books. I'm having a TAH and BSO, so I know I'll be in the castle for a few days. With my iPod, I can pre-load it with some music, a few audio books, and maybe even a movie or two. I'm also planning on buying a bunch of magazines I never buy.
Best of luck. Thinking of you!

Re: Counting down but need some help!

Not sure if you all have seen the section above this part of the forum. I think it is titled Helpful Hints from members. I read all through it and got a lot of great ideas. I suggest giving it a look!

damianna80, I never thought about that... the cute undies! But you are so right! I think I am going to buy some as my after surgery treat for myself. Thanks for the idea!

Re: Counting down but need some help!

I'd bring something lighter than books - mentally, I mean. I'm an avid reader ( 2-3 books a week), but i couldn't focus on a book to save my life in the hospital - magazines were a welcome distraction.
Also, if your doc says ok, you may want to pack some of your own gas-x: it's a lifesaver.
plus, snacks at home like everyone mentioned - you won't know what you do or don't feel like eating when you get home - and your tastebuds can be weird for a while.
Fresh batteries for remotes too!
I too splurged & bought nice lingerie, etc for celebration for not having to have a period anymore!

Best of luck to you!
