Low grade fever 5 days post op. normal?

Hello all, recovery has been manageable so far ( I will post more later) but I have been running a fever of 99.5 since the procedure. Is this normal?

Re: Low grade fever 5 days post op. normal?

It could be a sign of healing (your metabolism speeds up while you heal) but any fever warrants a call to your doctor.

Re: Low grade fever 5 days post op. normal?

I'm with Becca...I ran a very low grade temp a few days after surgery (99.1-99.7) and one night it was at 100.7. I didn't call my doc, because by the morning, it was gone. I did tell her about it at my one week check up and she said if it went up over 100 again, to call her. I haven't had any since. If you ever have doubt, call your doc!

I had on going low grade fever aftr surgery and did call dr. Thy also said to go to er if it goes over 100. Never did but it lasted 2 weeks. I finally saw dr after 2 weeks and had blood work done and turns out I had bladder infection. I think you should call and dont wait too long.

Re: Low grade fever 5 days post op. normal?

I had a fever off and on for a few days. Happened the day of surgery and the second day in the hospital. They ran a lot of bloodwork--no infection. I think my body went into HEALING mode immediately coming out of the OR!

However, about 10 days post op I spiked a fever of 101 and had a UTI. I also had tons of bladder spasms-pain.

Not sure what to say other than what you are describing sounds more like healing but definitely call if it gets worse or you have pain.

I also had a fever of 99.something and it turned out I had a UTI. I was told to definitely call if it went over 100.5 but I suspected I hada UTI; the fever went away within a day of starting antibiotics.
