Infection...10days post op...what is normal pain?

Noticed that my sutre line (aka smiley face) looked abit reddish and I felt abit hottish...so off to the doc's and have the start of an infection so I am on anti-biotics.

To tell you the truth I feel really good today in regards to energy level but what I would like to know is - what is normal healing ' pain' (is there such a thing??).

I have 'pinches' every now and then and a pulling feeling - is that normal?? - I asked the doctor but he just reiterated how it was a MAJOR surgery and make sure I don't over-exert myself . I HAVEN'T been overdoing things . I'm now on minimal pain relief maybe 1-2 paracetamol a day.

Look forward to your feedback

From what you describe, your pain level sounds like mine, the 1st 2 weeks postop. In your "Hysterctomy Checkpoints", there is a great article on pain levels in weeks 1-2 that you may find helpful.

Sounds like you are doing a good job of following your surgeon's orders. Take care, Princess..............s....Deb

Hi Rachb,
It sounds as though you are doing a wonderful job of recovering.
The feelings that you describe are "hysterectomy normal"....You will have many stitches internally as well and as your body heals it creates all sorts of new sensations....
I too had an infection in my incision, what you need to be careful of though is that you take all of your antibiotics and any repeat that you have as you may aslo get an infection inside that cant be seen....
Keep on pampering the princess and you will do fine...take care...xx
