Experiences? Opinions?

Hi everyone. I am kinda new here. To make a long story short, I am 22 and have horrid periods. They have been bad since I started, but have gotten worse and worse. Last year I went to the ER twice. In June it was so bad I had been vomiting 4.5 hours because of how tense my back and front gets with the cramps (Oh my god the pain was the worst I have ever felt in my life). The ER docs thought it might have been that something ruptured Well, they never found anything. So, I have been through two OBGYNS and on two different pills. Currently I am on seasonique. I have had my period for two months straight now. Still get cramps, though not as badly. I hate being tied to the pill. I take it religiously so I dont have another "attack". I have gained ten pounds, though I eat less and exercise more (same foods). I want a partial hystorectomy. What have been your experiences? Any alternatives? Did you gain weight? (sorry, i was anarexic at one point, and my job now depends on weight. I believe all sizes are beautiful, its a mental thing). How long was recovery. I m getting a commercial helicopter license and want to join the coast guard afterwards, but its hard to pick out a time line blind folded. I will talk to my OBGYN in December as that is when I get back to my home state. I would like them to do it while I am on leave (3 weeks in december, one in March) but I do not think A) they will do it that fast and B) I wont be recovered enough to come back on a deadline. Help?

Re: Experiences? Opinions?

Dear whirlybird:

Have you had a 2nd or 3rd medical opinion to get a clear reason for why your cycles are so painful? At your young age, you may have a hard time finding a doctor who will perform a hysterectomy. If the pill is giving you relief, that may be your best option for now.

I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. I am sending huge cyberhugs

Re: Experiences? Opinions?

Aww, thanks Twysmiling. The current Doc I am seeing is my second one. The first was horrible. She did not even examine me, and would not believe my past medical history (she would not believe I was a virgin, even though she would not even look at me!). She told me that I could not have anything wrong with me since I was so young. Ya, ok.

Opinion wise, the only other one I have is an ER doc that said either endo or dysmorreha (I am still struggling to find out how to tell), and my current OBGYN said the same thing. She would not give me a clear cut answer because she said that "it doesnt matter at this point".

I just want help. I dont care that I am 22. That should not matter

Re: Experiences? Opinions?

If you can, see a specialist, like an endo specialist. A hysterectomy is a huge decision, it's important to know just what is causing all the bleeding and pain. Before having a body part removed, you need to know that that is the only real option for you.
I agree that age shouldn't matter, but it's best to be clear about exactly what you're doing and why.
