Keeping one or both ovaries...

Right now I have decided to keep both ovaries unless doc finds high level 2 or above endo on them during surgery. I have never had it that I know of and, of course, the tests haven't shown it. I know it doesn't always show up until it can be physically seen by the doc.

My question is, even if my ovaries are fine during this surgery would it be an idea to remove one of them and keep one? I believe one ovary can produce enough hormones to keep you going. I have always (25 years) experienced pain in my left side, like a boot kick, never in my right. My left side periods are more painful and my right side periods are much more gentle. I don't have a lot longer (I think, my FSH is 6 now and I'm 53!) to use them so I thought one less might cut my future ovary problems in half. Any sense to this?

Keeping one or both ovaries...

Hi Becky,

I can understand why you've thought of this question, but since none of us are medical personnel, I really think that's a question you will need to discuss with your doctor.

Please let us know what you find out from him. I'd be interested in finding out what he thinks.

Keeping one or both ovaries...

Hi Becky, I agree with Karen, you really should discuss a decision that important with your doctor. Each person is different and so what is right for one is not necessarily right for another. Please let us know what you decide.

Keeping one or both ovaries...

I'm no Dr either but I can tell you this. I had my right ovary out cause my right side had always caused so much pain. Well.... that didn't work cause so far since my hysterectomy I've been having the pain on my left side. Fun... haha My Dr didn't want to remove either, but I talked him into the right and looky what I got... pain on the left now. But, I only had my hyster about 4wks ago so only time will tell... But, I would ask your Dr. about these things before you go in.... Don't wanna regret anything once it's over with. I told my Dr about the pain on my left and he says I AM NOT taking that one out. lol I'm only 31 so he refuses to take it just yet.... He's ganna think I'm completely nuts when I go back in April to tell him I wanna try BCp's to stop this ovulation pain. lol

Good luck,
angie
