prolapsed bladder

Hello. I'm new to this site.

Just went to my obgyn today to have what I thought was a prolapsed uterus looked at but apparently it is a prolapsed bladder (although the uterus is also very slightly prolapsed as well). It is still early stages and I have no syptoms of incontinence etc - but I can't wear tampons and if I bear down (warning tmi coming up!) my bladder pops out slightly.

I do not want a full hysterectomy. I have heard of a laproscopic procedure called Elevest which repairs prolapsed uteruses and bladders (and rectums) without removing the uterus.

Has anyone heard of this or experienced this? I am interested in finding out how long after this procedure I can have sex again - I read 6 weeks for a full hysterectomy with warnings on being gentle.

12 weeks from now my long-distance boyfriend and I will be having a week together at the beach and I need to know if I should do the operation now (the prolapse gets in the way sometimes) or wait until our rendevous (spelling?) is over.

Thanks (and sorry for the overwhelming amount of too-much-information).

Hi lawks

Here is a link to the prolapse section of our Resources Directory: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/lin...=browse&cid=27

And here is a website with info and message boards for gals seeking non-hyst treatments: http://groups.msn.com/choiceforprola...pgmarket=en-au Perhaps a pessary would be a satisfactory solution for you while you research your options.

Get smart about your symptoms and your options, and make the best choice for YOU. I am sending huge cyberhugs

I would hold off on surgery until after the rendevous! You never know what will happen during surgery and you could wind up with longer recovery for one reason or another. If you want to be intimate and have a good time, I'd wait until afterwards if I were you.

Thanks girls for your quick responses. It certainly makes sense to postpone but... When I said my boyfriend (new boyfriend) and I are having a rendevous, I should have mentioned that it will be the first time for us to be intimate. I'd like everything to be perfect and my bladder showing its face does not stand up to that definition. I'm in a quandary.....

But first, I will follow up on those links. Thanks.

That does put a new twist on things! I just assumed you and he had been intimate before. The thing is, if you do go forth with surgery, you may not be ready for the intimacy when you see him. If the possibility of having to wait longer doesn't bother you, then perhaps you would be wise to go ahead with the surgery first. My husband wasn't put off by my bladder showing, but he and I had been together for years before it happened.

It all boils down to a personal decision on your part, I'm just sharing my personal story thinking it could help you make a choice that's right for you!! Good luck!!

Thanks newbodyplz.

Yes - things are a little complicated. I should have attended to this problem earlier on in the piece, but I've been celibate for so long (despite being in a 15-yr marriage) and I have no symptoms so it didn't seem so urgent.

This guy and I live on different continents so changing the dates for our rendevous is impossible...

I'm off to see the Urogynocologist (surgeon) tomorrow and am hoping he can give me some idea of recovery. It is only keyhole surgery after all - much less invasive than regular surgery, and I won't be losing my uterus, so I'm hoping to get some good news. I have 10 weeks until the rendevous (aka dirty weekend).
