Confused...slow recovery

ok, I had by hysterectomy on Jan 15th 2009. The first 2 weeks were great, I was healing and feeling great.

Jan. 31 I went to ER with servere abdominal pain. My Dr. happen to be on call that weekend. I was admitted with a bowel obstruction. I was only given IV fluids and enemas for 3 days till I was discharged on Feb. 2nd.

When I got home I realized I was blown up like a balloon. I felt confused and disorientated. I had the worst pressure in my head and I do not get headaches. I called the Dr. and they did bloodwork. The bloodwork showed possible electrolyte or B12 deficiently. This could be a result of the IV fluids I received.

A week later more bloodwork. Results still show the same. Also my red blood cells are large and potassium is high. I go back tomorrow for more bloodwork and talk to my Dr.

I still feel confused and have bouts of nausea. My bowels seem to be ok now but I have to force myself to eat. My appetite is gone.

I am at my wits end. Did they screw my up or what? Did I have a reaction to IV fuids? I do not know what to think.

Anyone have these problems?
Thanks ladies

I hope they figure out what is going on. That seems very weird. I have never heard of some one having a reaction to IV fluids before. ((Hugs))

What a disappointment to have been doing so well and now a set back that you are not recovering from. Please be persistent. I have not heard of the problem you have developed but ask for some time from your Dr. and take someone with you that can be a second set of ears. The good news is I think that vitamin B12 is replaceable and should be easily treated.

Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing.
