leiomyosarcoma

I just had my annual pap test and my doctor thought she felt some fibroids and an enlarged uterus. I am 57 and have never had any gyno problems before. Dr ordered an ultrasound. I went back to my gyno on Friday and was shocked when she recommended a hysterectomy. She said since I have an enlarged uterus 2 month pregnant size and a thicked lining ( i think she said a 7) and my fibroids (one a ping pong ball size the other a marble) that have grown in the past year the only definate way to rule out leiomyosarcoma was to have surgery asap.Is she being an alarmist or has anyone else had this problem. I don't have any symptoms except for heavy bleeding the first and second day of my period. I'm on HRT and still have a period. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

leiomyosarcoma

Hi (((Overlake7)))

It’s always a good idea to get a second opinion before considering a hysterectomy. You might want to consult with an oncology gyn since they’re the experts in this area. It would be helpful for your 2nd opinion doctor(s) if you could provide a copy of your ultrasound report. I had an endometrial biopsy done when my uterine lining was found to be thick. If your doctor did a biopsy of your uterine lining that would be helpful information too.

leiomyosarcoma

I agree with Beth. Please seek a second opinion, preferably with a gynecologic oncologist. We have had a few ladies here with leiomyosarcoma, so if you do a search using that term, you should find some good information.

Good luck! Please let us know what you find out!
