Good morning lovely princeses!

I have a question. Is it common to have a yeast infection after TAH? I am 41/2 weeks post op and kinda feel like I have one. Or could it be the stiches?

Just wondering if any other sisters have had this.

Hi MissMissy,

I can't really say if it is common or not. I didn't get one and I get them a lot if I take an antibiotic. Maybe some others will let you know what their experience has been.
I do know that you don't want to do anything without checking with your dr first. When you are so early post op there is a lot going on "down there" and you don't want to self diagnose or especially self treat yourself. You could cause something much worse than a yeast infection. So, check with your dr please if you experience any changes vaginally. Keep us posted.

i would have thought it to be quite likely - as 'injuries' (the sort of soreness i get from riding my bike for hours on bumpy ground!) cause the ph in there to change, allowing the bacteria to get out of hand. So i'm sure that sutures could have the same effect - i'm sure a quick chat with a pharmacist would help

Hi!

Sorry -- can't provide an answer to you but can commiserate. I'll be 4 weeks tomorrow and have started to feel a bit itchy down there and have been wondering if I have a yeast infection too. Or if it's just vaginal dryness (I had my ovaries out and have an estrogen patch but it seems like many women still need a bit more than the patch to eliminate dryness) I normally don't get many (or at least bad enough to treat) yeast infections but was on antibiotics for 2.5 weeks post-op so it's possible. It hasn't been too severe though so I just plan on asking my doc when I see her for my 4 week post-op on Wednesday (unless things get worse between now and then)

Good luck!

:hair:

I had vaginal thrush last week (3rd wk post-op). Dr said probably due to the after effects of antibiotic. Also, I hardly take yoghurt.

Did 6 nights of pessaries and now feeling better. There is still a very slight yellowish discharge (watery - not churd or cheesy like before).

I can understand how uncomfortable all this feels. So, take care always.

p.s. now I am doing yoghurt every morn and evening.

... i thought natural yoghurt only worked applied to the affected area - not ingested?

I went to dr. at 4 weeks post and I had a yeast infection. I had some discharge at the time, but thought it was due to healing. He presc. Diflucan, it's just one pill,in 2 days the inf. was gone.

Nope, ingesting yogurt works just fine according to my Doctor and my own experiencs. I haven't had one in over fifteen years (knock on wood) but I used to get them some times when I was on an antibiotic. That's quite common. If you don't want to eat yogurt you can buy the active culture in powder form. You can mix it in something you eat or drink. Works good that way also.
