Surgery Over...but no BM!

Surgery Over...but no BM! I had a LAVH on Monday the 22nd. I haven't had a bowel movement yet and this gas is awful! Please suggest something! The surgery went fine, and I'm glad it's over! I thank everyone for their prayers and encouraging words!!

Surgery Over...but no BM!

I went 3 days without a BM and thought I would die. My Dr. said take stool softner and gas-x and use fleet enema if I needed too. Walk around as much as you can too. That really helped me with the gas. I stayed constipated until I got off the heavy pain pills. Since then I've been fine and no more gas either...what a relief!!!

For help with the gas pain try taking beano before eating. Beano is a natural enzyme that aids in digestion. I had a TAH/LSO June 20, 2005 and this helped me a lot. Make sure you walk as much a possible and take gas X. Good Luck

Surgery Over...but no BM!

Well after bowel prep, then ice chips for two days and then clear diet, I didn't have much of a bowel movement for the first few days. And when I did it wasn't much. They gave me stool softener. I found passing gas VERY painful!

Surgery Over...but no BM!

Morning....

My suggestion for helping with the bm is water, walk, water, walk, water, walk. I have discovered that if I do NOT drink at minimum 4 glasses of water a day, I dont use the bathroom daily and my belly swells up. I had a TAH on Aug 2.

I haven't had to turn to any meds for a bm, but I was very close. I also read on this site that a nurse made a drink for a gal that couldnt have a bm either...it was prune juice and 7-up, then warmed in a microwave?
I havent tried it, but seems the 7-up would make the prune juice a little better. I would suggest that you get rid of the fuzzies in the pop prior as pop doesnt help gas pains....(makes them worst).

Best of luck...

Peppermint tea or peppermint water, walking and 6 juicy prunes with each meal - you won't last a day
Good Luck!

Your not alone with this one. I was as regular as the 4 seasons, and felt like a puffer fish. So, I ate very little and drink, warm prune juice, green & white tea and lots of water. Finally in 3 days I started getting relief. It's amazing what will make us go ahhhhhh and smile!
