Next week I'm having "the talk" with my doctor

I've been through 9 months of exploratory surgery, treatment with birth control and finally 3 months of Lupron Depot. Next week I sit down with my doc and try and figure out what the next step is. Previously she had mentioned that if the Lupron made me feel better then I would probably be having a hysterectomy. At this point, I feel it's a good thing and almost have DH believing in it too!

What are some questions that I should ask that aren't on the "FAQ" part of this site? Anything that you wish you had known before hand? What can I say to persuade her into surgery as soon as possible? Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm ready for my trip to the castle! Just need to know how to get there!

Thanks.

Next week I'm having "the talk" with my doctor

Hi Rene!
You didn't give an age range (proper ladies are not supposed to ask). Your situation sounds familiar!

I am 35 and my castle date is set for Dec 17 (one week from today) and I had to change Dr's. I had been a 10 year patient of the first Dr with 6 of those years on Depo for birth control. I loved being without periods but did not like the high blood pressure and 15lbs A YEAR weight gain (yep, I gained 100 pounds). Dr said he would not perform tubal until I turned 38 but after serveral rounds of discussions and most humiliating a visit with myself and my husband (grown woman can't make up her own mind on reproductive issues) he agreed. At 29, I had a tubal. Stayed off Depo for 3 years but restarted when I could no longer stand the chronic pelvic pain ! Dr wanted to begin Lupron Depot to see if that eased the pain. (You are fortunate to be able to go this route) I asked him to speak with my Gen. Practice Dr. because I have a personal and family history of depression. GP DR absolutely refused to agree to the Lupron. OB Dr told me I had no alternative but to live with the pain or undergo exploratory (sp) but he would not (short of cancer) perform a hyst!

Being a hard head, I asked GP to recommed another OB. Well, I saw the recommended OB and on the first visit had an open discussion about what I wanted. Upon my follow up visit she told me all of my treatment options which included hyst. I had to ask her to repeat to make sure I heard correctly.

Long story for a short moral, you should not have to convince DH or Dr for your choice of action. If you know in your heart that hyst is the right way for you, then follow your heart. If Dr does not agree, find another! As my mother has told me "it is your body and don't let anyone tell you what to do with it" (But then again, she said that during the crazy hormonal teenage years, probably for a different reason.)

You are not without support whatever your decision. Remain true to yourself. Only you will make the correct decision!
