Insurance carriers stink

I cannot believe what a roller coaster the last month has been!!! I just got a call today from my gyn's office, and learned that my insurance company does not want me to go to the specialist at UW Madison ( whom I have an appt with on Tues.) but instead they want me to go to Loyola in Chicago. That would be fine, if there are pelvic floor specialists and accredited dr's familiar with the procedures I have to have done...BUT I called out of curiosity to see how long it would be for an appt. FEBRUARY is the earliest. And that is just for the initial consultation. The way I'm progressing, I'll go in with my uterus, bladder and rectum sitting in my lap!!! I cannot believe how frigggin much this whole thing has overtaken my life. I have almost become obsessed with this and my stress level is rising by the moment. Sorry, I guess I have to vent.

Rach73-I agree with you. I had to go From February to September before I could get my surgery. They kept dragging their feet. My doctor finally told me that if it didn't get approved soon to go into emergency room and they would admit me that way. Luckily I didn't have to do that but thought about it many times as pain was so bad. Hope yours gets resolved soon. Brenda

Rach73;
you are not alone!! I work for an oral surgeon, who would be happy to treat my TMJ and atypical facial pain, however, we have UHC and they will no pay for him to provide services, surgery, etc. and even if he waived his fees, UHC would not pay for the hospital fees since a non-approved physician provided the services, so I have to drive 3 1/2 hours to UNC-Chapel Hill to the dental school to see the oral surgeon there. How dumb is that???
Please, if you do not want to do this, contact your state insurance commisioner for help, they will assist you for free. Also, check your benefit booklet because sometimes there is a stipulation that is there is no participating provider within a certain milelage of your home, that the insurance compan will pay as in-network for you to see the non-network provider in your area, especially of you can get it approved as an emergency.
Good Luck!!
Annie
